First of all, get ready to sweat. Most humid place I've ever been. LOL

One thing I really enjoyed, though, was going over to Sanibel Island. Neat place and lots of great restaurants over there:

There's lots to do there in Ft. Myers. You shouldn't have a problem keeping yourself entertained.

My advice is to go for the alien abduction story. Look bemused, dishevelled and on the verge of tears as you recount your story of intrusive and degrading medical tests.
Worked for me anyway. I still have colleagues asking me what it is like to fuck a green womanoid with seventeen breasts.

Ain't that the truth!! I was down at West Palm Beach a few years ago in mid-September and the heat and humidity was fucking insane. You can't do justice to the humidity if you try to explain it to someone who's never been there. You can keep that shit.

Really. It's a nice place but you're right. I went in August a couple years back and temp only got up to about 85 but the humidity made it feel like 110+. Yikes! I don't know how those folks live there year-round...LOL

You shouldn't sweat too much if you're going next week. It's nice down there now. Those guys were talking about August and September (and I can totally vouch for what they're saying--I was miserable a couple of years ago in August). But May is nice.
I can't recommend much in Ft. Myers. My uncle has a place down there and I was there once years ago. Mainly we just played golf (nice golf course-but a private one), watched some preseason baseball and went out to eat a couple of times.
I can recommend the Tampa/Clearwater area.

At least you'll have your sister to show you around.

Oddly enough, the West Coast of FL gets like that because the Gulf of Mexico gets warmer than the Atlantic...so the seabreeze doesn't have the same cooling effect as it has on in the coastal areas of FL's East coast.

good question - I've been to forts in Key West and St. Petersburg, but I don't know if they have 'em in Ft. Myers, Ft. Lauderdale or Ft. Pierce!

Please excuse my ignorance - is this the area where they have the Salvador Dali museum?

It's been years(1986 or so), but I was at the original Outback Steakhouse in Tampa.
Fort Myers has/had a Thomas Edison museum which is very interesting.

Eh,I was in Ft. Myers last month for two days on business. I managed to catch the last Red Sox spring training game (saw Peter Gammons pull up at a light next to me), but other than that there wasn't much to do. Of course, I wasn't there to hang out anyways.

Thankyou - I visited it (stayed at the Clearwater Sheraton - Sands?) and it was amazing - I'm a huge fan of his and studied him as part of my degree. The size of some of those paintings is incredible. Incidentally, we were there early May and the weather was absolutely beautiful. We'd buy apricot tarts from the hotel shop and eat them on the beach in the early hours of the morning as the sun went up - fabulous!
