I've never seen this guitar ever, and I think I've seen at least all of the axes Eddie has ever used at least since VH1. I doubt Eddie ever really "owned" this guitar...kind of like Chevy sending a Corvette to Mario Andretti, and he simply gives it away to a friend or family member because he doesn't know what to do with it...so maybe Eddie owned it in that sense. Definitely not worth 14 large.

I remember seeing a "Diver Down" guitar of Ed's, not sure what make (Charvel/Kramer/scratchbuilt) but it was rear loaded like his Kramers and black and yellow Charvel with the typical basic Strat shape but with the Diver Down Paintscheme with the white band down the middle. When I saw the thread, I thought it might be that one. I had a recollection of the Strat shaped one being given away or auctioned off or something years ago. I'm sure Jimi's got some insight here. Cool little ax though.

If you read what it actually says on the typed letter, it states that the guitar was rejected by Eddie as he didn't like the balance of it etc - so, although it may well have been used by Floyd Rose, you're quite right that it was never in Eddie's possession - bit of a swizz really.

It will probably command a hefty price regardless if Ed used it or not simply because it is a Kramer with some significance in the company's history.
More because of it being an original done by Unkert, and it had the early production type Floyd on it.
There's still a lot of folks out there with deep pockets for any historical guitar. More money than brains? Probably, but it still astounds me how much people will pay for overpriced reissues, let alone the real deal.

Personally, I don't like the shape of it - it looks like a piece of Swiss cheese.

I really don't know the full story behind the Diver Down Kramer, but Scott Smith did build a replica of it. I'll ask him for some further details.

Just heard back from Scott. Here's his response:

    "Hey Jimi,

    How ya been?

When I was in college, I traced the no bozos ad guitar (white kramer) and drew about 4-5 different designs and that was one of them and it was the only one that I ever made out of those designs. I had never seen one like that before and only ever saw one other guitar like that since - but it was a thinner white line etc. As far as any relation to ed, there is none that I can think of and have never seen him with a guitar like that or in his collection.

    Scott"

All it is a Foyd Rose signature guitar. Nothing special. And I've never seen a gold floyd on any of Ed's guitars.

    Cool! Thanks Jimi!
Yeah...I'd never seen Ed with the guitar either....It was on an auction site, not Ebay, (though it could have been on there too) claiming to have been played by Eddie, but....there's a lot of claims. I did see one guys collection and he had another like the Diver Down...so I thought, well maybe he did have one at some point I hadn't seen. I assumed it may have been a Charvel, couldn't remember what kind of headstock was on it.) but I guess it was just Scott, or maybe someone else who did the same thing. Not that that EVER happens in VH land! Hell....I thought about making one years ago too!
As far as the guitar in the thread...for some Kramer fanatic, I'm sure it would be a find given just how many people I've been reading about in forums pulling their necks and pickups off looking for Steve or Paul's scribe on the pocket or cavities. vintage Kramers are becoming very collectible pieces, even more than a few years ago again.
