    Default Encore for Next Tour

For the next tour, they will have two albums worth of material. Even so, I would love for them to do a similar encore with covers. If they do it again what two or three songs would you like to hear?

I would love to hear VH but I donít think they want to touch it. Sam covers that base with the Wabos anyhow. Another Montrose tune would work for me Ė maybe Space Station #5 or I Got the Fire. A solo Sammy tune like Heavy Metal or The Limit would be fun but once again, the Wabos seem to already take care of that need. Iíll pass on anymore Who tunes but maybe some Zeppelin that Joe could destroy would be great.

Just my opinion, but one of the reasons I went to see them multiple times on the tour was they were playing new music. I hope they stick to that now that they have two albums worth of material. Just my hope.

As for encores, they should end with Future is the Past. Epic, epic song. Again, I don't want covers. The world of rock has been too bone dry of quality new music for the last twenty years (in my opinion), that to have a band that kicks as much ass as CF does, I would love to see them encoring to kick ass songs that they have written.

    So my encores would be

#1 - a killer new song that rocks from the new album. Perhaps the stage is dark and you hear guitar start in with either a Joe composition or an extended guitar intro from something off the new album, then Chad and Mikey join in while the stage is still dark, and then the lights hit the stage and BAM the intro to the song kicks up and Sammy comes out and they rip into a new song.

#2 - an absolutely epic version of Future is the Past that ends the show with a face-melting shred by Joe and Sammy coming out with his guitar to jam at the end, perhaps even a little harmonizing lead a little perhaps?

I like hearing a band do a cover. It's nice to hear them put their own spin on it.
Van Halen was excellent at doing that. They made some of the covers their own and even better than the original.

Or, maybe doing a medley of songs from their past:

    1.) Satch solo tune
    2.) Sammy solo
    3.) RHCP
4.) You Really Got Me sung by Mike

I am not sure about placing it in the encore, but one of Satch's classics like Surfing, Summer Song or Satch Boogie would be cool, and give Sammy the 'singers' break. Heck, he could even grab the axe and trade riffs.

Future in the Past is a great closer. But for me, "Bad Motor Scooter" worked so well as a finale. On Get Your Buzz On, they absolutely killed that song, and with Sammy playing the solo...wow.

I'd like to see them do one of Sammy's post-VH songs; Hallelujah is a fave of mine and I'd love to see Mikey do the harmonies that the keyboardist(Jesse Harms?) did so well. Mas Tequila, Marching to Mars or Tropic of Capricorn would be sweet too.
The song ain't dirty it's really just the way we sing it...

I think they should just come out and sing Happy Trails. That would make my night if they came out and did that for the encore.

Great, great, great song. That's not enough greats, but let me tell you, that is a great song.

Edit: Just wanted to add that aside from playing their own songs (which as I stated is my vote for the encore) I liked the idea of doing one from each band member's catalogue: Open with Satch instrumental, Maybe rock up a RHCP song, a Sammy solo song, and a VH tune. But the VH tune would have to be Sammy era for two reasons - 1) MA is not a lead singer and 2) I never wanted to hear Sammy sing Dave when he was with VH and I certainly don't want to hear him do it in CF.

I donít have Not 4 sale so I just listened to it now for the first time on Youtube. Is this a song that you have to listen to a few times to get it? I thought it was borderline terrible.

Possibly. My buddy bought Not 4 Sale when it came out. I barely gave it a listen and I never actually bought it. It took me until 2008 to give it a fair shake and now it is my favorite Sammy album out of all his solo career. Which is saying something. I have everything Sammy ever did and like just about everything and Not 4 Sale just kept growing on me with every listen.

As for the song "Hallelujah", think that song is great from the beginning. It starts out with a great, dissonant guitar and the beat is laid down in a heavy rock fashion, but still grooves. The lyrics are exceptional I think because it's very dark and allegorical I think of the crucifixion of Christ and how that crucifixion is being played out in the modern battle of good and evil. Actually pretty deep stuff for Hagar. I also think the pre-chorus into the chorus is fabulous and goes from minor dissonance in the verses to an uplifting, melodic, major key in the chorus to create a "salvation" feel to it.

The organ solo is fantastic. Great production choice to use a pipe organ (ala a cathedral) and play a nasty medieval solo to emphasize the spiritual content of the song, but, again in a minor scale to emphasize the duality of spiritual struggle.

I think it's a great song and a great album.

Not 4 Sale is probably his best solo album, for sure.

No VH will be played by CF, and for good reason.

They'll only cover RHCP if Chad is touring with 'em, which would be great.

If they gotta toss in something other than the two CF album choices, my vote would be for a Zep/Kinks/Doors cover, or maybe Heavy Metal.

Funny how it is different strokes for different folks.

I think Not 4 Sale is one of his weaker efforts, some gems on there but to me half the album is throwaways.

I really don't want to hear them play any covers, I would rather hear them play both albums from start to finish than do that.

Maybe some RHCP covers, but they should avoid Van Halen like the plague, too many comparisons when they have their own material to play from.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!
