    Underwater digital cameras

    Hi all-

I tried to find a thread here on digital cameras, but nothing was too current.

My husband and I are going on a Caribbean cruise next month, and we were thinking of getting an underwater digital camera. We don't want to spend an arm and a leg on it (that's for the cruise and excursions!) but we don't want a piece of crap, either. Under $200 would be nice. Most of the reviews I'm finding don't mention actual underwater use, which is what we're after. We like to snorkel, so that's what this camera would be used for.

Does anyone have experience with a good underwater digital camera?

Did you check to see if the camera you have has an underwater case available? Couple of my friends scuba a lot and they bought a case for their camera (which is a pretty nice camera) and use it for scuba. They get great pics with it. Just an idea.

I know you can find the disposable type for snorkeling and things like that. Some cameras also have just a waterproof case that you put a regular compact or DSLR into. I wouldn't expect great picture quality from anything but the higher end stuff, but it could still be fun to have

This is the camera that I have for underwater use. It is primarily a 720p/1080p video camera that records to SD cards. It is also a 5mp still camera. The still photos taken in good light situations are pretty darn impressive and the video is FANTASTIC for the size and processor of this camera. I mainly shoot at 720p/60fps since it is mostly used for action shooting. The smoothness of the video is excellent. It can be bought from Amazon right now for $109.99. Also check youtube for some sample vids of this camera in action.

After much research, we ended up with this one:

It's always interesting when my husband agrees to spend more on something than I thought he would!

    Thanks for the advice, everyone!
