Default McDonald's announced today that it plans to hire 50,000 people

    http://money.cnn.com/2011/04/04/news...jobs/index.htm

McDonald's said Monday that it is planning a one-day hiring spree of 50,000 new workers on April 19 for its U.S. restaurants.

McDonald's (MCD, Fortune 500) said that these new "Mcjobs" will include crew and management positions, part-time and full-time.

McDonald's, which has 14,000 restaurants in the United States, said the hires will occur nationwide.

"We're excited to offer 50,000 new jobs, all across America, all in one day," said Jan Fields, president of McDonald's U.S.A.

Fields, who started working at a McDonald's restaurant as a crew member behind the counter in 1978, said the 50,000 new hires will increase the U.S. workforce to 700,000 from its current level of 650,000.

She said the average pay for the jobs is $8.30 an hour. That's compared to the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, though in some states the minimum wage is higher. She said that restaurant managers can make $50,000 a year.

Nice to see at least one US company hiring!

I seem to recall that about 6 years ago the unemployment rate was around 4-5 % or so, and one of the many, many, criticisms leveled at Mr. Bush was that his economy was producing too many burger-flipping "McJobs."

Clearly this is an area that Mr. Obama is also determined to improve upon the prior administration in a serious way. 50,000 new McJobs in ONE day?

That is some real oneupmanship leadership!

I don't know about where you kids live, but ever since the economy took a crap, I have observed the quality of fast food employees has gone up dramatically. Most of them have their teeth, don't smell to bad, and are reasonably all around decent looking. Maybe my standards are dropping as I age, but there are some decent enough for coitus. Not sure what my post has to do with anything but yay the economy, or something!!

And just think Mickey Ds got a waiver from Obama Care and they hired 50,000 people.

Good deal. And maybe with these extra 50K employees they can bring the McRib back full time.

Just take a look at the McRib locator. This is unacceptable.

50,000 is a lot of new employees. Why the sudden need for 50,000. They aren't planning on opening 500 new stores. Could it be that they are looking to go the route of Walmart in hiring so many people that none of them work over 20 hours a week so therefor no benefits are provided.

I have a feeling thats what they are doing, which is hiring enough to knock everyone down to part time so that they don't have to offer benefits, I know tons of companies are doing that now. They will hire all of their associates at 20 hours a week. My company started doing that a little while back. Instead of hiring a full time person, they've been hiring 2 people for 20 hours a week a piece.

I have no issue with this. A lot of people are looking for part time work these days. I know several people that are working 3 part time jobs. Sometimes its all about keeping your head above water. If you know it going in then fine.

My guess is most McDonalds employee's are part time anyway with the exception of Managers.

Does that mean the VS's daily posts will go down now?
