I completely agree.. it is true. Also, on that same note, that's a lot of people reading about Ed and his crazy shit. Maybe Janie (or whatever her name is) should think about some positive PR output.. Instead of letting Sam dictate what the world knows about Eddie and Van Halen as a band. After reading this book, a lot of people may not be the Van Halen fan they were prior.

I will admit this surprises me a bit.....The numbers, I'm guessing, reflect his fan base buying up the book as soon as it came out.....and it's not suffering from lack of promotion from it's author.....should be interesting to see how much staying power it has once all the fans have bought they're copies....And I don't think the sales numbers have as much to do with the Eddie dirt as people think.....

I'm always surprised though at how many people still care about Hagar and VH....

Side note.....'Crazy From The Heat' never cracked the NY Times list.....

He promoted the book using the subject Van Halen as if it was a new album, I wouldn't expect less than no. 1
"I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone

"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and I´ve got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth

WOLFGANG did the IMPOSSIBLE, he brought back VAN HALEN, DEAL WITH IT.

You'd be right. People underestimate his cross genre and class appeal, I think. He's got a pretty big fanbase all on his lonesome. It ain't all VH fans that are buying this book, not even close. Believing that this book is selling because of VH dirt is ridiculous. That's only part of it, and moreover, for a very small contingent of readers.

Fact is, nobody outside of the dwindling diehard VH fanbase really gives a fuck about the politics of Van Halen.

Rockstar bios can be popular, or not. Helps if you have more than one target niche. Most people are buying the book simply because like it or not, he's an American icon that EVERYONE knows, even if they don't prefer him as a performer. You'd be hard pressed to find someone in the U.S who hasn't heard of Sammy Hagar.

The VH angle certainly didn't hurt sales.....but people buying the book just for that would not have put it at number one.....

It still surprises me though....Sammy Hagar's life story being a bestseller.....but then again, 6 years ago, when I found this website, I was absolutely shocked that there was anyone at all besides myself who still gave two shits about Van Halen.....really.....I was stunned.

No offense "Bard", but you are sounding more and more like a Sam Fanboy...I hardly think it is ridiculous to think the VH dirt is helping to drive sales... if it was, you wouldn't hear Hagar making it the top priority of his talking points.

Still - good on him, he's been around for years and has nothing left to prove as an artist as far as I am concerned.

Of course the VH stuff is the main driver of sales, but why is that some kind of knock on Sam? If Paul McCartney released an autobiography, the Beatles stuff is the main driver, or the Zepp stuff would be the main driver if Robert Plant released one. VH was a big part of his career and he's entitled to sell a few books because of the VH brand.
