Default Unrest in Yemen, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia,..Arab world

    Slaughter today in Yemen.

    Yemen Gov't Snipers Slay 46
    March 18, 2011
SANA'A, Yemen -- Snipers hidden on rooftops fired methodically on Yemeni protesters yesterday, mowing down 46 people, including three children.

Police sealed off a key escape route with a wall of burning tires that turned the massive anti-government demonstration into a killing field.

Many of the victims were shot in the head and neck, their bodies left sprawled on the ground or carried off by other protesters desperately pressing scarves to wounds to try to stop the bleeding.

The dramatic escalation in President Ali Abdullah Saleh's crackdown suggested he was growing more fearful that the unprecedented street protests set off by the region's unrest could unravel his 32-year grip on power in the volatile and impoverished nation.

The United States, which supports Saleh's government with hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid to battle one of al Qaeda's most active franchises, condemned the violence. President Obama said those responsible must be held accountable.

Violence spread across the region yesterday, with security forces in Syria killing six protesters in the southern city of Deraa in the most violent response to protests against the ruling elite since revolts swept through the Arab world.

    Deadly Crackdown In Bahrain
At least six people are reported dead and hundreds injured after security forces in Bahrain drove out pro-democracy protesters from the Pearl Roundabout in the capital, Manama.

Police open fire on Syrian protests
Protests broke out in four Syrian cities on Friday, the first large-scale demonstrations here since the pro-democracy uprisings began in the Arab world three months ago. Brutal police crackdowns followed, leaving six people dead and scores injured.
In the largest protests, several thousand people gathered in the center of Dara’a, in southern Syria, chanting “God, Syria and freedom only,” witnesses said. They demanded the resignation of the mayor and the leader of the local branch of the security police. The police later opened fire on the crowd, killing six.

Saudi king warns against unrest while boosting benefits
Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah has warned that threats to the nation's security and stability will not be tolerated.
In a rare televised speech, he praised the Gulf state's security forces as the "shields of this homeland".

After he spoke, state TV announced a series of royal decrees promising a higher minimum wage, pay increases, an anti-corruption drive and an expansion of the security forces.

In the country's oil-rich Eastern Province, bordering Bahrain where Saudi Arabia has sent 1,000 troops to help quell unrest, there have been protests from the minority Shia Muslim population.

Yemen President abandoned by his own tribe; sacks government

Yemen – The U.S.-backed president of Yemen suffered a devastating political blow on Sunday when his own powerful tribe demanded his resignation, joining religious leaders, young people and the country's traditional opposition in calls for an end to his three decades in power.

Massive crowds flooded cities and towns around the impoverished and volatile nation, screaming in grief and anger as they mourned dozens of protesters killed Friday when President Ali Abdullah Saleh's security forces opened fire from rooftops on a demonstration in the capital.

Saleh appeared to be trying to hold on, firing his entire Cabinet ahead of what one government official said was a planned mass resignation, but making no mention of stepping down himself. Yemen's ambassador to the United Nations and its human rights minister had announced their resignations earlier in the day.

Experts said that Saleh, who has cooperated closely with U.S. military operations against his country's branch of al-Qaida, had lost the support of every major power base in Yemen except the military.

Many said he would now be forced to choose between stepping down and confronting demonstrators with even deadlier force.

"We're talking a new set of dynamics that are driving the conflict into either the resignation of Saleh or a very serious clash between the two sides," said Ibrahim Sharqieh, deputy director of the Brookings Doha Center. "The U.S. should work now on an orderly transition in Yemen and press Saleh to find an arrangement that doesn't allow chaos."

It's not the business of America to support kings and dictators. These guys need to go. They really treat their country like their personal property. Worse of all, the King of Saudi Arabia.

Default Tens of thousands protest in Syria

Syrian Troops Open Fire on Protesters in Several Cities as Unrest Spreads

Military troops opened fire on protesters in the southern part of Syria on Friday, according to news reports quoting witnesses, hurtling the strategically important nation along the same trajectory that has altered the landscape of power across the Arab world.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators in the southern city of Dara’a, on the border with Jordan, and in some other cities and towns around the nation took to the streets in protest, defying a state that has once again demonstrated its willingness to use lethal force. It was the most serious challenge to 40 years of repressive rule by the Assad family since 1982, when the president at the time, Hafez al-Assad, massacred at least 10,000 protesters in the northern Syrian city of Hama.

Human rights groups said that since protests began seven days ago in the south, 38 people had been killed by government forces — and it appeared that many more were killed on Friday.

“Syria’s security forces are showing the same cruel disregard for protesters’ lives as their counterparts in Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, and Bahrain,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch.

The new round of protests and bloodshed came one day after the Syrian government tried to appease an increasingly angry popular revolt with talk of improved political freedoms and promises of restraint. Instead, it unleashed its forces, firing on peaceful demonstrators trying to march into Dara’a, according to The Associated Press. There are also reports of security forces firing on civilians in cities around the country.

The cascading events in Syria bear a remarkable resemblance to the course taken in other Middle East nations recently.

Isreal gets attacked and butchered daily and no one comes to their aid. Hell even the current administration in the USA distances itself from the only true mideast western democracy which has the USAs back. The only thing the Sunni and Shia agree on is the death of all Jews and the UN declared state of Isreal. If you think that a western style democracy is going to come out of any of this I have bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. I also agree with Trump that Iraq is a joke which we have pumped trillions into along with the blood of our young people that we should take trillions out of in oil for the USA.

Default Syrian protests gain momentem - Gov't opens fire. Protestors retaliate.

Friday prayers around the Arab world always end in bloodshed these days...
Police open fire again in Syria. Today though the protesters apparently fired back, killing 19 members of government security forces.

Dozens of Protesters Killed by Security Forces in Syria

At least 27 people are dead after Syrian security forces opened fire on tens of thousands of protesters across several cities Friday.

Witnesses said the worst clashes began after demonstrators marched from three mosques in the southern city of Deraa after Friday prayers with the government and protesters both claiming to have sustained heavy casualties as the country's three-week uprising entered a dangerous new phase.

But state TV said 19 policemen and members of the security forces were also killed when gunmen opened fire on them. It was the first significant claim of casualties by the government, which has contended that armed gangs rather than true reform-seekers are behind the unrest - and it could signal plans for a stepped-up retaliation.

There were protests in cities across Syria sparking violent responses from the authorities. Nearly 100 people have died across the country in the last month.

Syria had appeared immune to the unrest sweeping the Arab world until three weeks ago, when security forces arrested a group of high school students who scrawled anti-government graffiti on a wall.

Protests then exploded in cities across the country.

    'Good Friday massacre'

Syrian security forces respond with deadly gunfire; killing at least 50

BEIRUT — Some 50 protesters were killed today when Syrian security forces fired live bullets and tear gas at tens of thousands of people shouting for freedom and democracy, according to witnesses.

Friday was expected to be a major test of whether President Bashar Assad's promises of sweeping reform would quell the month long uprising. Protesters flooded into the streets after prayers Friday in cities across the country and were met with live ammunition.

"The people want the downfall of the regime!" shouted the protesters.

The protest movement has crossed a significant threshold in recent days, with increasing numbers now seeking the downfall of the regime, not just reforms.

Even by the blood-soaked standards of the repression that has characterized the Syrian uprising - at least 250 people have died since protests first began on March 18th - this was killing on a different order of magnitude.

Do you want to carpet bomb/nuke them all? This would make us better than (the worst of) them how?

Let them fight for their freedom. It will mean something to them that way, rather than have it shoved down their throats with a foreign invasion.

Yemen security chief at US Embassy killed in Sanaa

SANAA, Yemen – A masked gunman assassinated a Yemeni security official at the U.S. Embassy in a drive-by shooting in the capital Sanaa on Thursday, officials said.

The Yemeni officials said the killing bore the hallmarks of an Al Qaeda attack, but it was too early to determine if the group was behind it. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

The assassination resembles other attacks targeting Yemeni intelligence, military and security officials in retaliation for a wide military offensive by Yemen's U.S.-backed government against Al Qaeda's branch in the country.

Yemen-based Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which Washington considers the most dangerous offshoot of the terror network, had taken advantage of a security and political vacuum created by last year Arab Spring-inspired uprising and seized territories and cities in the south. The government-led offensive has pushed the militants out to mountainous areas from where they have been staging suicide attacks and assassinations inside cities.

Two weeks ago, a top intelligence official, Col. Abdullah al-Ashwal, was also killed in a drive-by shooting in Sanaa.

The embassy security official was identified as Qassem Aqlani, in his fifties. He was on his way to work when the gunman on a motorcycle opened fire at him and fled the scene. The attack was in western Sanaa, close to his home, while the embassy is located in eastern Sanaa.

Aqlani had been working for the U.S. Embassy for nearly 20 years.
