Default isn't today the 16th anniversary of the start of the balance tour?

I think the balance tour started on 3/11/95 in pensecola. I used to have the whole show on VHS somewhere and think I still have the audio somewhere. I just remember thinking how "off" everything seemed on the first leg or the tour. Sam was sick for most of it, Ed's hip thing had just come out, his hair was cut and he was "sober". I bought a few of the guitar mags and the interviews with him were so much different than in the past. Vids didn't really get played on MTV (which was a big deal back then).

they were great when they came back around in the summer, I'll give them that.

just thought I'd throw this out there.

Just checked my VH Encyclopedia to double check and you are right, this is the day the Balance Tour started. I remember coming out of a restaurant into my friends car - we heard them say on the radio 'here's the new VH song'. Heard the opening chords to Don't Tell Me. Wicked intro. I could tell you what parking spot we were in, I remember it like it was yesterday. Saw them two nights in a row that tour. Our Lady Peace opened. The Ray Danniels/Canada connection. Remember wishing they'd acknowledge the Dave catalouge more, as I always did, but still good memories of the shows and the cd.

Saw them 4 times on that tour. Loved the little piece of RWTD they played before One Way to Rock.

I remember going to a blockbuster music store and previewing the CD a few weeks before it came out and I was really fired up. they played the seventh seal on the radio the day before it came out and I was like "holy shit". I've loved that song ever since. I bought the cd right when the store opened that day, I worked nights so I was there right when they opened and they told me I could only buy one. I wanted to get a copy on tape and one on CD but they said nope. I went with the cassette cause my car had a tape player.

Amazing to think there was a time that Halen kicked so much freakin tail that you could only buy one damn copy of the new album on opening day. I really fucking miss that.

Wow, thanks for the reminder. Now I know which show I'll start my Friday night concert viewing with. From what I remember that was a pretty nice bootleg, pro shot by MTV. I think a remastered version of it came out last year on a dual layer dvd.

I remember cringing during one of sammy's little talks to the crowd. he goes "our manager had the balls to come up to me and say don't swear during the show. I'm a grown man. I'll come out here and go "fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck" and eddie does a guitar squel near the end like "cut it out already". I was like "uh oh" things just seem very off during that show. I have the opening night of the FUCK tour on CD somewhere and the difference is amazing in terms of energy.

I remember being really bummed out after I saw them on the first leg.

there was another point in the show that made me cringe as well, it's when Sam is introducing Feelin' and he says something like "I wrote the lyrics to this right after me and ed had a big fight" then ed comes over and they hug or something and sam says he was just kidding and all of that but I was like "un oh"

Van Halen summer tours. A great life experience. Many, if not most of VH tours started in March, there have been a few tours that started outside of the spring/summer months but there was a time we used to be heading into Van Halen season about every other year.

From 1978-1995, Van Halen fans had a tour every year or every other year starting up about this time or at least the shows would be announced about now. The last 16 years has given us only 3 tours versus 12 tours (84/88 Monsters plus solo counted as 2 tours) in their first 14 years.

F.U.C.K. started in late September and and the '07 tour started in the fall.

I saw them in Miami, must have been one of the first few shows if the tour started in Pensacola. Sam was sick and sounded like shit, I think he overextended himself doing the MTV Spring Break special. The band was tight, but the show was shortened a bit because of Sam.

there were alot of reports at the time of Hagar having the flu for a good portion of the first leg or the tour. Rather than cancell and do the shows later they decided to go ahead and do them.

I alwyas thought the MTV aired spring break special showed a big problem with the band as well, they just seemed really off to me. Contrast thier performance on the opening night with the PPV performance....it's like night and day.
