I don't usually say shit like this, but that sounds like a Rothtard with Eddie apologist tendencies and Sammy's dick in his mouth.

Thatís not really a defense. The premise seems to be ďItís not Hagarís fault that VH sucked after Roth left.Ē The whole article is one big back handed complement. Classic only fans and Roth-only guys are either going to tolerate or hate the Hagar years but they arenít the ultimate judge of things.

I actually agree with what he says in a lot of ways, but I've always felt that way. He's not gonna change any minds with this and I can absolutely tell that was his goal.

He completely lost me with the playlist segment. Just a ton of inaccurate statements and opinions that take away his credibility with the entire article.

I always thought that Eddie and Al sounded great thru the Hagar years, and Sammy for that matter. IMHO Van Hagar suffered from sub par lyrics. Not sure if that was entirely Sammy's fault, but if the lyrics were better the overall product would have been better.

I don't disagree with much here, but I will never, ever understand why VH fans put such an emphasis on lyrics.

If I want good lyrics I'll listen to Rush or Genesis (which I do). If I wanna be reckless and have a good time I put on my Motley Crue and Van Halen stuff. Lyrics didn't matter much during Dave's tenure and they honestly didn't matter much during the Sam era far as I'm concerned.

Agreed on the lyric argument. For the "lame" lyrics Sam did, I can pull out some lame ones Dave did with Van Halen AND when he was solo. Roth always gets a free pass at lyrics when (1) he really isn't any better than Hagar and (2) since he barely sings live anyway, it is almost to the point of "Who cares what the lyrics say because he doesn't sing them?"

I think a lot of it stems from the commercial success Hagar had before he entered VH. He wasn't known for having a White album. Of course, Roth doesn't have one either but that's okay for some reason. Just my opinion and we know what those are worth.

Both eras were great in their own way. Let it go at that. If you are listening to VH for some super depth and meaning, you are in the wrong place. That was never what they were about.

Summer Nights is filler? Yeah OK. I can't even believe I wasted my time reading the whole thing.

Black And Blue is his favorite Sam era tune? Wow...just wow. And BOBW is the best song on "5150?"

Seriously the guy is a fucking idiot.

CVH had raw heavy lyrics (and mostly dark ) that's gave them an edge (IMO). Alot of the Sammy lyrics were about love and light poppy stuff. However, I do agree that Sammy had better range and had that WOW factor when hitting the high notes. That's what kept me interested.

Yeah, Dave wrote some weird stuff, but I think its the whole "double entendre/tongue planted firmly in cheek" that made Dave's lyrics so much better than a lot of the stuff from the Hagar era. Ask the average person about Women in Love, and they'll think its about two women in love with a guy...ask a true VH fan, and they know better.

    It's just someone's opinion. I don't take it seriously.

    But.....I didn't agree with it..especially regarding Al's drumming.
Al doesn't need to spice up every song with all kinds of crazy fills.
What I've always liked about him was that he only played what the song needed.

But Dave also had some "sheepa lada boobie for the mookie" type lyrics! Funny, yes, insightful, not. I'd say his lyrics were slightly better than Sam's, but it's not that huge difference that some Rothtards make it to be. They didn't go form Bob Dylan to Brett Michaels, in terms of lyrics.
