    Default Anyone ever been audited?

Anyone ever been audited? My dad did my taxes and I got an assload of money back but he did some deductions that he never has and I'm kinda nervous. I mean they're not paying me to grow corn or anything but milage and stuff like buisness expenses. Just curious.

    No.

My tax guy started doing all kinds of deductions that freaked me out last year. I was the idiot for not using them all along. I get more back, and it's all legit.

Haha. No just a letter. I big fat envelope with the beautiful words "Internal Revenue Service" in the upper left corner.

It started for my 2003 taxes when apparently my accountant was being investigated. Myself and nearly all of his clients got audited as a result. After a solid year battling them I was able to beat it completely. But while that was going on I also got audited for 2004 and 2005 AT THE SAME TIME. All of this was going down in 2006 for me. The year from hell I tell ya.

So no sooner had I spent two years trying to clear all that shit up I got audited again for my 2007 taxes. I fought that and beat that completely too.

Fuck the IRS. Bunch of fucking criminals if you ask me.

My wife did when we were dating. She was a travel nurse, and they get to write off literally everything as an expense. It was a huge PITA, but we didn't pay.

I have no idea how my family didn't when I was a kid. We used a local CPA who used "creative" accounting, as my dad put it. Shortly after he was arrested for embezzling from the local school board. Surprisingly, no audits came our way. Now we use a by the book, straight as an arrow CPA-which is good and not good mind you.

Yes. Twice. This time they say that I owe them $270 due to my Amazon stocks I sold in 2009. They're wrong, but the hard part is proving that they are. Hopefully my tax lady can get this all straightened out.

If they show up at your door you are indeed fucked, as that is the CID branch of the IRS that does that. Criminal Investigative Division.

Like most federal bureaus, if they are showing up at your door that means they have you by the short hairs and your are big trouble.

If you have been audited three times with a no change and get selected for audit again you can argue that you are being harassed by the IRS.

There are court cases for it, just threatening could probably get them to drop.

Obviously as a CPA I deal with them all the time, and most of the auditor's are just normal schmucks like us with a stack of work on their desk they want to get done.

Of course, there are always a few that get off on it, may God be with you if you get one of those.

Yes I have been audited for about a whopping two dollars and forty three cents that I owed in back taxes.
That had to of been about ten years ago.
