Default Dave and the Splits off of the Drum Riser

I noticed that on the last tour Dave wasn't doing the splits off of the drum riser. Anybody know why? When I saw him solo in around 2006 he was still doing it. I know he mentioned at the Tiger Woods show that he 'can blow out a knee with the best of them'. Any chance that's why? I'll be curious to see if he pulls it off in the 2011 tour.

I'm gonna' guess being 50+ has something to do with it.

Despite Dave's age being reported as 54 for the past 3 or 4 years at least, I think he's somewhere in the neighbourhood of 56...closer to 60 than 50 for sure. That's not a move a guy that age should be attempting, even though Dave is in great shape. He would be pretty much guaranteed a severe injury if he tried that every night of a tour. I'm glad he is a lot less mobile now, it's forced him to focus more on singing all the words and even providing backup vocals when needed. I think he should drop the karate chopping bullshit he still does, he's starting to look like fat Elvis up there at times. I like what he's done with his image though, the short hair suits him and he seems to be aging a lot more gracefully.

Because Dave's gotten smarter in his old age, and tour delays and cancellations because of broken bones is just bad business.

I think he's still in great shape, but it's time to leave the gymnastics to the kids.

    Was that a serious question?

...splits? really at 56 years old? that's just retarded, sorry..and if you haven't noticed, Alex really isn't on a drum riser anymore...its maybe a foot or two off the ground.

I really hope he drops the gay bull fighter wardrobe...

Newsflash: Dave also left the bleached blonde hair and chaps at home on the last tour, as well.

I saw Dave solo in 2005 or 2006 also, but he did not do any drum riser leaps/splits. He did however do many spin kicks and jumps and did the same in 2007/2008- which is still very impressive.
Wolfie is not Mike, but he's more than ok.
Mike is gone, but not forgotten. They played some amazing shows from 2007-2015; some people are in denial about it.

Yes, the spin kicks are still quite impressive. I'd kill to be in his shape now, never mind at 56ish.

It's because Dave isn't drinking Jack Daniel's on stage anymore...

Maybe we’ll give Dave a call and see what he’s up to.” - Edward Van Halen ~ 2009

I remember footage of that. It wasn't the high jump of old, but he was doing it.

I dont know what it is about it, but those bullshit karate moves, as someone said,
gave the music a visual that really was amazing. How does it feel when dave leaps off the riser at the beggining off unchained in oakland. I dont know but to me they were amazing and were in perfect sync with the music. It gave it an edge and agressiveness to the music and of course to the espectacle you were seeing and hearing.
