Default Best Screaming Solo Tone and lack of taste thread

After reading the recent posts about Ed's tone in main, I was prompted to think about my favourite "fucking hell, what is that man doing to his guitar?" tones/techniques in solos.

There are lots of nice warm players, so tasteful is out of this discussion, but what do you guys think is the best "on the edge" screamers of solos out there?

It takes great tone, probably a fuck-ton ( sorry, feels great) of volume and a man right on top of his game to do it right.

I still maintain that Steve Vai doing "Viv Woman" is about as fucked up mental as you can get.

Hendrix on "Voodoo Chile (Slight, yeah right, fucking return)" would qualify but I think it is best to limit this thread to humans.

    Any thoughts?

(ps. NO meerkats are allowed to post in this thread because they always talk about that fucking "Goodbye to Love" solo and it is not mental. Amazing, but not mental)

The finale solo in Prince's "Let's Go Crazy". I'm not a big Prince fan but I always thought his guitar stuff was wicked. He's got a lot of Hendrix in his style and attack. His overdrive always sounds like his gear is on the verge of melting.

Good point on Prince. "The Morning Papers" is such a tasteful solo but his guitar setup sounds like it can't handle him or his playing.

Let's be honest. The guy is a fucking monster.

Lots of Jeff Beck comes to mind. Specifically, Good Bye Pork Pie Hat, among many others on the Wired and Blow By Blow albums.

You'd have to include Randy's solo's (yes, plural) of Mr. Crowley on the live Tribute Album.
    Just go for it!

People tend to forget a lot of my fellow countrymen, so I present to you, one of the nicest, most humble kick fucking ass rock/blues guitar players ever (imo of course) Mr.Jeff Healey. From about 3 min in. he pulls shit out of that guitar that rivals anyone. With little effects too.

Indeed. One of my favorite guitar players. Ever. He's one of the greats and he doesn't quite get the credit he deserves. But that's another story.

Here's Ted Nugent back in the good old days. The album that made me want to be a guitar player. He used to destroy guitars by playing them in amazing ways at amazingly loud volume. Now he just shoots arrows into them.

The solo starts at around 2:55. Click the link below to go right to it.

Epitome thereof. Especially the solo in the middle after the breakdown:

Going to throw out an acoustic player who uses overdrive which causes his hollow body to feedback but in a controlled fashion.

Monte Montgomery. Check him out on Youtube. Dude is as sick as Tom Hanks in Philadelphia.

I have always thought Vernon Reid's solo on "Cult of Personality" was pretty screaming.

I always had a ton of respect for this guy. I loved him in Roadhouse (for real) and thought he was just incredible to watch.

this might be a terrible thing to admit but I was getting pretty good at guitar hero a couple of years ago but my wrist hurt after playing so I worked on playing it "jeff healey" style for awhile...I got ok at it then I stopped playing all together.

No doubt that Jeff Healey was a little bit special. I remember seeing him on English TV back in the day and he did a live rendition of "See the light" that had the presenters of the show just gobsmacked.

Didn't he play a cheap Squire strat on the early stuff?

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez comes immediately to mind...tons of stuff all over Frances the Mute and Deloused.

Ian Moore's Green Grass/And All the Colors era had him using a bommerang and deluxe memory man to create some of the most intense sounds I've ever heard...and during the Green Grass shows he never used electrics...he would use an old Martin he's had for years to create some of the nastiest, wickedest distortion and feedback I've ever heard.

Tom Morello, moreso with Rage than with Audioslave, created some of the strangest most convulsive solos I've ever heard.
    Stay out of it, dude.

Not sure, could be. Little known fact about Jeff. He played with SRV the night of the crash and allegedly was almost on the same helicopter.
Little Jeff story, I was in Toronto walking down the street, they had it blocked off for some kind of arts festival. Thousands of people and booths. I walked by a large tent full of people. It was for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. I looked over and Jeff was reading a children's book (obviously braille) to his daughter up on stage. It was kinda surreal just happening by a tent, to look over and see one of your heroes. Cool moment. Oh that and he could play the trumpet as good or better than guitar.
