    Default DLR solo tour (someday)

Wouldn't that be cool if Dave someday down the road inbetween VH tours if it gets that far did a tour of just his solo work? He's left out some great songs over the past decade, and it wasn't until '03 did he start to include at least 5 solo songs in his VH-heavy set. It might not sell well, but why couldn't he do a mini-tour? This would be cool setlist:

    1. Shyboy
    2. A Lil’ Ain’t Enough
    3. Just Like Paradise
    4. She’s My Machine
    5. Slam Dunk!
    6. Shoo Bop
    7. Big Trouble
    8. Ladies’ Nite in Buffalo?
    9. Tight
    10. You’re Breathin’ It
    11. Sensible Shoes
    12. Skyscraper
    13. Flex
    14. Damn Good/Black Sand/Ice Cream Man
    15. King of the Hill
    16. Thug Pop
    17. Just a Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody
    18. Goin’ Crazy!

    19. Yankee Rose
    20. California Girls

I threw in "ICM" because that would be the only conceivable way he could do the other two songs--I can't see him doing ballads unless he was fuckin' around during the intro to "ICM" acoustically or something. Some others I'd love to hear would be "Bump and Grind," "Knucklebones," "Hot Dog and a Shake," "Hammerhead Shark," "It's Showtime!," "Drop in the Bucket," "Big Train," "Don't Piss Me Off," "Little Texas," and "Stay While the Night Is Young."

If he would tour with the original EEAS band line lineup I would spring for broker tickets for this one. I think we're dreaming here but hey why not... The brothers can't keep Dave on retainer and silent forever.

Of course they would. Dave made them both big names. I'm not saying Billy and Steve wouldn't have reached success on their own, but being in Dave's band gave them a ton of exposure.

BTW...the proposed set list would rock!

I thought long and hard about this one. I really do enjoy a lot of Dave's solo stuff. I wanted to craft a true setlist; what I would pay top dime for if he played this on a solo tour. Here's what I got:

    1) Shyboy
    2) Knucklebones
    3) Everybody's Got The Monkey
    4) Big Trouble
    5) A Little Ain't Enough
    6) Slam Dunk!
    7) Ladies' Night In Buffalo?
    8) Just A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody
    9) Baby's On Fire
    10) King Of The Hill
    11) Goin' Crazy
    12) Black Sand
    13) Lady Luck
    14) Tobacco Road
    15) Hina
    16) Your Filthy Little Mouth
    17) Drop In The Bucket

    Encore

    1) Yankee Rose
    2) California Girls
    3) Damn Good

The problem with Slam Dunk! in a set list is that I have never heard him sing that well live.

Not saying it as a dig, but that song has always sounded like shit live.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Yeah, his voice was not in the best shape around that time.

I saw him when he opened for Bad Company in 1999, and they gave him almost the full stage and let him play for a good 75 minutes, and he put on a good show, his voice was better then than it was on the album.

But Slam Dunk! was a train wreck. And that Rantarook (sp?) festival version of it from Finland, yikes!

I didn't even realize that he opened for Bad Company in '99. In '99 I saw him at The Silo, which is this fairly small rock club just outside of Reading, PA. I couldn't believe that this guy who used to play arenas was performing at this club so close to my house. They also somehow brought in other 70's bands like Kansas and Foghat around that time. Dave's band was super and he looked and sounded great. He did basically the whole routine from the old days with the JD, etc. It was really packed close to the stage but at one point I was a few people away from it. Here are some reviews of that particular show with a few pics. I was amazed to also find 30 minutes of it on tape on one site.

The funny thing is that the picture on that second URL was taken by the younger brother of the drummer in the band I was in from '78 to around '84 (we still play from time to time). I didn't even realize he was a photographer for the local paper at that time.
