Default If Van Halen did a Classic Albums program??

    Which album should they cover?

    Van Halen or 1984?

Would be cool to see at least Ed, Dave and Ted Templeman sat behind the desk with the old multitracks.

Al and Mike could have separate bits interviewed.

Seems inevitable that they will do one of the albums as they are Diamond sellers....

Despite being a classic, maybe there isn't so much to tell about VH1 on the studio, knowing that nearly all the songs were already written years before and, as Eddie always told us, the album was recorded almost live.

1984 would fit better in this case, this album was a huge production effort considering innovation, mixing and video making. As we know, it all ended up with Jump, Panama and Hot for Teacher on the top charts. Would be very very nice to see a program about 1984!!!

Don't forget about Don Landee! Don and Ed basically made 1984.

I've been watching the repeats of the Classic Albums shows on Sky and they're great, esp. Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Simply Red's Stars. But it'll never happen for VH even if VH1 and 1984 are Diamond sellers - they aren't over here in Europe. More chance of seeing episodes on Lou Reed, Nirvana and Neil Young. Sad fact: Van Halen are just not important over here except to we few.

There is a lot of footage out there from 1984.
All the behind the scenes footage from the jump and panama videos.
Tons of lost weekend footage - but that's mtv not vh1.

1984 would be the album to do a show on.

    That would be sweet.

Well...while I don't think we can ever really overstate Van Halen's significance within the hard rock/metal world, I'm not sure how much of that monumental, undeniable impact bled over into other forms of music or into the general culture...though I think stuff like Bill and Teds and Beat It certainly do count for something.

Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground were incredibly influential on future artists whose music mattered....same with Neil Young and Neil's career is one that spans almost the entire lifeline of rock and roll. What's more, both of them have been involved steadily and constantly with various social organizations, charities and movements.

Van Halen influenced the shit out of a lot of musicians who never should have been allowed to pick up a guitar or record a record. What's more, Ed is a nerdy, psychologically damaged and socially retarded guy who barely comes out of his hole long enough to say he's alive.

I don't think Van Halen has had as big an impact on the totality of music and culture that Reed and Young have had.

As far as Nirvana, they are the face of a movement that, despite how many of you classic rockers and 80s wank rockers despise, was and continues to be highly respected for its art, integrity, and the overall kick in the pants it gave music.

Van Halen, on the other hand, is the face of a movement (right or wrong) that a lot of people would rather forget...and one whose best attributes are the gravity-defying hair, logic-defying clothing, and reality-denying and generally grotesque consumerism where groupies were elevated to the level of equal-redeemer.

While I think a Classic Albums episode devoted to VH1 or 1984 is certainly deserved, they haven't maintained the commercial viability, social relevancy or artistic output that would truly justify the expense and effort that would go into making one.

The precedent was set with Def Leopard and Bon Jovi receiving episodes as well as Metallica so the series is not snobby, exclusive or biased against "rock" or even the 80s...it is however most certainly biased against throwing money out the window on trying to make a documentary on an album recorded by a lunatic, a bass player that would be lip synching his answers which are actually spoken and recorded by his father, a drummer who would sit silently and nod in agreement or disdain depending on the narrators comments and a lead singer whose entire contribution to the piece would be limited to incoherent ramblings ending in yezz yezz ha!

I'm not surprised nor do I think it a slap in the face to anyone that such an episode does not exist.
    Stay out of it, dude.

    I am Van Halen.

Either album would be cool, but what would be the coolest is if you could get all four together for a group interview about the album.

I know, it will never happen....

Just get Bill Murray to play Fair Warning start to finish on vinyl, on an old Fisher linear turntable. The show would write itself and cost penny's.

I'd rather see a Classic Albums on "5150" to be honest.

    Double ew.

Doesn't it have to be a classic album to be on Classic Albums?
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

At the point we're at, even III is a classic.

Both would be great but I'd go with 'Van Halen'.
