Default "Red voodoo" or "Ten13" - which is better??

I really get into these 2 albums in summer (which is now in australia), and its hard to seperate the 2. I reckon sammy was on a roll at this time and could'nt do no wrong album wise, even though they were'nt big sellers. These 2 albums had their rockers, a bluesy number in there too and a ballad. I also think some of sammys best lyrics came out with "Deeper kinda love' and "Returning of the wish" aswell. Its a shame he could'nt keep the tradition going with "Livin' it up" but these 2 albums i really enjoy never-the-less and "Not 4 sale" aint too bad too.....
I'll say "Ten13" wins just...cause of "Serious ju ju" and the great "Tropic of capricorn".
What is understood need not be discussed

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

I agree, Ten 13 is the better album. It sounds a lot better sonically and the songs are more meaningful than Red Voodoo. Good rockers on that album.

Both great albums. 1013 wins for me though. A near perfect album as far as I'm concerned, and my second favorite album by him behind Not 4 Sale - and I've been a Hagar fan for 30 years! Red Voodoo does crank though!

And I agree, Sammy was really hitting on all cylinders at that period of his career through Not 4 Sale. Some of the best material of his career during that time. I love that it was not commercially successful, because at that point he was just cranking out great tunes and not worrying about the consequences. I don't think it's a coincidence that some of his best stuff came out as a result.

I like both but enjoy Red Voodoo just a bit more.

For me it is not even close, my two favorite albums in Sam's entire solo catalog are Marching to Mars and Ten 13.

I really don't think much of Red Voodoo.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Some people on this site had an almost instantaneous bad reaction to Not 4 Sale where they bought it and listened to it once and wrote it off or never appreciated it. I had this reaction to 1013 when it came out. I'm going to have to dust it off and go through it again.

Yeah, I'm one of them, except to the listen to it once part.

I don't like that disc at all. Same with Livin' It Up! Some ok songs, but overall...bleh.

Yeah I'm gonna have to give those 2 a listen again.

And MTM is by far his best work IMO.

I initially wasnít thrilled with any solo Sammy albums post VH. But after some time, I came to appreciate 1013 as one of his best solo albums ever. Red Voodoo isnít bad but I find the title track to destroy the feel of the whole album for me and Iím sick of hearing Mas Tequila. I would rank his post VH studio albums as Ten13, MTM, then nothing for a while, then Red Voodoo, then nothing for a really long while, then Liviní It Up. (I donít have N4S or CUF).

I think Ten13 and Not4Sale are his 2 best albums - I prefer Ten13, but only slightly...Looking back, it could be argued that the VH '04 reunion tour - as bad as it was for everyone - also derailed momentum to Hagar's solo career...he was really bringing it at that time and while not commercially successful, was putting out some of the best work of his career...then came the trainwreck of a tour, followed by Livin' It Up & Cosmic Universal Fashion...which are nowhere near the quality of the previous two efforts...

I also am a fan of his live "Hallelujah" disc...recommend checking that out as well if you haven't already - nothing new on it, but good live versions of some great songs...

No brainer. 1013. Even though my forehead is in the concert foldout shot of Red Voodoo .

I thought CUF was just ok. No real hooks.

RV for me, just think it has a happy party bounce to the entire album, always like playing it in the summer when I'm in a really good mood.
