My god is Just Like Paradise a sell-out 80's song. So much cheese.

Someone needs to find me an 80's album that aged worse than Skyscraper. Top to bottom that album is stuck in the 80's worse than any I can think of.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I bought this album the second it came out and I remember hoping it would be a continuation of the straightforward rock of EEAS, but it wasn't. I'll still fire up this song every now and then to be taken back to the 80's. As a guitarist, I love Vai's use of delay on the guitar parts. It was a fun time though- DLR's solo career hadn't crashed and burned yet, and the Skyscraper tour was great. Plus, VH with Sammy was still a relevant band in the music scene- saw both tours that year.

I don't understand the point of TV shows shipping in all the equipment and then not have them play live.

It's not like it was some Disney teeny bopper who has never played live before. Roth and Vai had each played thousands of shows by that point in their careers, and probably at least a hundred together, just let them play!
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I had forgotten how bad that song is....

This was clearly the beginning of the end for Roth.
"It doesn't mean that much to me to mean that much to you..." -Neil Young

"The sun's not yellow, it's chicken." -Bob Dylan

"If you go out and buy a Van Halen record and put it in your collection, it'll melt your other records." -David Lee Roth, 1981.

Sheriff of Nottingham: Because it's DULL, you twit!!! It'll HURT MORE!!!

Actually the vocal melody is not bad and could've been the vocal melody of one of VH's poppier song.
What kills it is the music. EVH would've never allowed such crap production, and the music during the verse is very simplistic rhythm-wise. None of the sophistication of VH is present there. Even "Feels So Good" and "WIL" have so much more groove and finesse. The groove is very rigid in this song.
