    Default EVH Low Friction Pots

has anyone bought these ?? I ordered them for my 2 peavey wolfgangs and EVH ernie ball, got the 500k . I know the Ernie ball has a 250k pot, will a 500k be ok to put in? Also does anyone know about the peavey pots, are they 250 or 500k ?

    The EBMM has a 250K pot? I don't think that's stock.

    Using a 250K or a 500K isn't gonna hurt anything though.

Yes I got one, the 500k one. Works great. But I like my knobs to spin easily, a lot of guys don't.

And no the EBMM most definitely does not have a 250K stock. Neither of mine do and both are original pots, they're 500K.

I'm assuming in the Peavey Wolfgangs, the volume is 500K and the tone is 250K, in the Standard. But I didn't open mine up to look.

thanks for the info, I may have been mistaken when I said the ernie ball has a 250k, I thought I read that in my manual that came with the guitar but I trust that you are right about that. Good to know, I bought the new EVH special and I love the pots on it so thought I would change my others for consistancy.

The EBMM pot is 500K, and both pots in the Peavey Wolfgang are 500K. The new EVH Wolfgang has a 500K volume pot and a 250K tone pot.

AT -- do the original volume knobs for the peavey wolfgang work with the new EVH pots or will I have to get new knobs as well ?

They're all just pots. The only compatibility issue you would encounter is shaft size. I suspect the pots from all the various EVH model guitars (all quality pots) would be the larger USA sized shafts. I've done re-wire jobs on many import guitars that required an enlarging of the shaft hole to accommodate the new CTS/DiMarzio/Bourns sharft size.

I misread your post the first time. You were asking about the knobs.

The EVH Bourns pots only come with solid shafts. (I think. Do they make a split shaft version? Not that I've seen.) If you install solid shaft pots the Strat-style knobs from the Peavey Wolfgang won't fit. You can install MXR-style knobs like what are on the EVH Wolfgang or something else with a set screw.

Or, you can just buy some regular 500K Bourns or DiMarzio split shaft pots, save a few bucks, and use the same knobs from the Peavey. I've replaced a few Peavey Wolf pots with both.

Bourns does make a split shaft regular version of the low friction pots -- they feel exactly like the EVH pots but don't say EVH on them, and they are cheaper. You have to do some hunting to find them though on a massive electronics parts store like Mouser or Digikey. I can't remember the part #.... if I find it I'll post it.

I'm pretty sure that these are the correct part numbers:

Bourns knurled shaft number: PDB241-GTR01-504A2 ($2.89 ea. @ mouser)

Bourns Plain shaft number: PDB241-GTR02-504A2 ($2.63 ea. @ mouser)

Search for the part number @: http://www.mouser.com/

I just realized my mouser order sheets and parts are back home... it'll be a little while before I can check the #s. At one point, I was experimenting with using different pots, and I ordered like 4 different Bourns 500K's and 3 from other brands. 2 of the Bourns pots were VERY clearly the same as the low friction EVH pots -- minus the name. One had a solid shaft, the other had the knurled shaft.

Yeah... I have a few of these:
Bourns knurled shaft number: PDB241-GTR01-504A2 ($2.89 ea. @ mouser)
and they are they same minus the branding.

Yup, that looks like the ones I've been buying. Great pots.
