I am so getting tired of cancer. It's times like these that I really think it's a government conspiracy that created this horrific disease.

It would be a shame to lose Aretha, but it sounds as if it's imminent. Hope they do what they can to spare her any undue suffering.

I haven't liked anything she's done since the early 70s to be honest with you...in fact, she annoys the hell out of me with all this "diva" crap that has come on in recent years.

That being said, she is one of the most incredible singers ever to grace this earth. She deserves every accolade, every bit of R.E.S.P.E.C.T she get because she is as good as they come.

Her gospel work, which much like Elvis' was overshadowed by her secular music, was spectacular and almost enough to fill this cold heart of mine with the glory of JEEEEAAAYYYsus.

One hell of a singer. They don't get much more iconic and influential than her. In a lot of ways, she's kind of an "eddie van halen" of female vocalists...sadly, like Ed, a mass of talentless soulless copy cat hacks jumped on her bandwagon but hey, it happens.

    She's still the Queen.

Hopefully her exit will be smooth, painless and with dignity.
    Stay out of it, dude.

Default Aretha Franklin's Rep: 'Everyone Is Praying for the Best'

    from billboard.com:

Aretha Franklin is recovering successfully from surgery, her rep tells The Hollywood Reporter. Multiple media reports have said the singer is battling pancreatic cancer.

"The doctors said the surgery went well and that every one is praying for the best," the rep told THR without specifying her illness.

Franklin underwent surgery on Dec. 1, releasing a statement the day after that read: "God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country."

Her cousin Brenda Corbett told the Detroit Free Press that the soul legend was in good spirits and "doing really really good."

Earlier this year, Franklin announced she was canceling all her concert dates and personal appearances through May 2011.

Default Aretha Franklin Released From Hospital

    from billboard.com:

Soul icon Aretha Franklin has been discharged from a Detroit hospital where she underwent successful surgery for reported pancreatic cancer.

Franklin, 68, has not made public her diagnosis, and a spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.

"I've been at home for almost three days now," Franklin said in a statement. "My family and friends who brought me home are taking great care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits on a daily basis."

The spokeswoman added in the statement that Franklin was "in great spirits."

Both the Detroit News and the city's Fox TV station said this month that Franklin was battling pancreatic cancer, the disease that claimed actor Patrick Swayze last year.

A monumental figure in American popular music, Franklin dominated the soul landscape during the 1960s and 1970s with such songs as "Think," "Respect" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman."

The daughter of a preacher who was himself a recording legend, Franklin revisited her roots with several acclaimed live gospel albums, including her 1972 Grammy winner "Amazing Grace."

Despite her obesity and fear of flying, she has performed frequently over the years. But after a brief hospitalization in October, she canceled all appearances for the next six months.

Default Aretha Franklin: Health Problem 'Has Been Resolved'

    from billboard.com:

Aretha Franklin has granted another brief interview about her unspecified illness that required surgery last month, telling JET magazine that the health problem, while still undisclosed, "has been resolved."

"I am not one to do a lot of talking about my personal health or business," says the 68-year-old singer, who won't confirm rumors that she was treated for pancreatic cancer. "I don't have to talk about my health with anybody other than my doctors. The problem has been resolved."

Franklin says that she felt "a very hard pain in my side" during a concert in Toronto last year, and that she believed that the pain had resulted from a recent colonoscopy. "I got up at 2 o'clock in the morning and called the doctor who did the colonoscopy and told him what was happening," she says. "He said, 'Miss Franklin, whatever it is, it is not from the colonoscopy. You need to come home and have a CAT-scan.' Thank God he said that because that unfolded everything, what the problem was and everything."

Franklin underwent surgery at a Detroit hospital in early December and was discharged on Dec. 15. The singer canceled all of her concerts through spring 2011 and was told to rest at home for eight weeks following the surgery.

The famously private Franklin told JET that she wanted to use the most recent interview to update her fans and express her gratitude for their support. "I know my fans are concerned," she says. "Let them know I am feeling great and coming along."
