I loved this song but just stumbed upon this tune which sounds very similar. Not sure if its been discussed here.

    Look what I found /\
Drums in the start sounds similar to hot for teacher (and it's from 1981)
and its also by Trevor Rabin!

    Well...that's pretty disappointing.

Hasn't Ed cited himself to be a fan of prog-rock like Yes? It just seems incredibly unusual that the artist the comparisons are coming from is Trevor Rabin. That's just me.

There is no way that is a coincidence, especially since it is the same guy.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

If you think that is a coincidence, then you should also look at the drum track from Vinnie Vincent's 1988 All Systems Go Album. You can see where Alext Van Halen got his inspiration for his drum track Doin' Time off of Van Halen's 1995 Balance Album.

I never dared say this before for fear of geting a new asshole ripped out but I have always felt Eddie has copped A LOT of other musicians and bands riffs and grooves. You Kinda begin to wonder what all those "Ten Albums Worth of Music" is really all about...

Cant seem to find it on youtube now, but the spectrum song has the swing drum groove with a keyboard part that comes in on top sounding a lot like the tapping part in HFT.

Like this..I think there is a version that sounds a lot closer to HTF somewhere.

That's exactly my reaction as soon as I heard the first 10 seconds.

Oh, and similar isn't the right description. They are so close, you could call Eddie's a cover.
