Default Sammy's autobiography ready to be released in 2011

    Looking forward to reading this

    From roadrunnerrecords.com

Legendary rocker Sammy Hagar is putting the finishing touches on his autobiography, tentatively titled "Red", for a 2011 release via It Books, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.

"The book's basically done, but the editors want me to go deeper in a couple of areas," Hagar tells the Marin Independent Journal. "They said, 'There were problems in VAN HALEN? Well, what kind of problems?' The way I've written this book is that I'm just telling the stories, from childhood until now. It's humorous in places, there are sad things, inspirational things."

According to Sammy, his book won't pull any punches.

"It's sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll, tequila and success and cars and money and fame and fortune," he said. "I've gone over the top. It really is crazy. I was shocked when I read my own book. It floored me. I said, 'Wow, what a guy.' I've had the most complete friggin' life on the planet. I can imagine people thinking this guy couldn't have done all that in one lifetime. But I've been a busy boy."

Hagar, the multi-platinum Red Rocker, is best known as the bombastic frontman of VAN HALEN, one of the biggest-selling rock groups in history, and the lead singer of the hard rock group CHICKENFOOT.

The book was acquired by Lisa Sharkey, Senior Vice President and Director of Creative Development for HarperCollins from Frank Weimann, President of The Literary Group International. Senior Editor Matt Harper will edit the book.

Hagar will provide readers with incredible behind-the-scenes stories from his multi-platinum career, including his rise as a solo artist and his eleven years with VAN HALEN, after the controversial departure of original lead vocalist David Lee Roth. During Hagar's time with VAN HALEN, the band released four consecutive No. 1 albums. From worldwide stadium concerts tours to private jets, Hagar enjoyed the trappings of fame and success with VAN HALEN until he was, as he puts it, "unceremoniously fired." Hagar later thrived as a solo act, leading his band, the CABO WABOS, before returning triumphantly to VAN HALEN for an historic reunion tour after which he set off on his own once again.

Honest and compelling, Hagar's account spares no one, least of all himself. Hagar's autobiography reveals the inside story of one of rock music's most recognizable voices, from his humble beginnings in the town of Fontana, California, to his incredible business success with Cabo Wabo Tequila and the Cabo Wabo Cantinas. The book is being co-authored by Joel Selvin, longtime pop music writer for the San Francisco Chronicle.

This line alone should light a fuse or two around here.

I wonder if he wrote about the aliens uploading stuff into his brain or any of the ghost encounters he had that were on Celebrity Ghost Stories. I guess I'll find out. I'm reading that book from cover to cover. Can't wait.

Is this the same book that's been floating around on the internet for the last 10 years?

I'm excited for this book, but the article is God awful.

One day I found this "book" on the internet and read everything (actually it consisted of just some pages...)
    So, it wasn't a fake?
I'm sure some people here already read it and some really now if it was a fake or not

Yeah there was a few pages floating around. It was from his "unreleased autobio" so I'm sure it's the same book. He`s been working on it for years.

    Actually, I don't believe that's the case.

I thought that those 2 leaked chapters you're referring to were from a book project that was eventually scrapped. I also believe Sammy sued the author (co-author?) to prevent it's release. On what grounds?.. not sure.

    Anybody else?...

what you said was true, I'm not sure why there was a potential lawsuit but I do remember Sammy shelving the book.

I thought the chapters that were leaked on the internet came from an authorised biography, but not an autobigraphy.

If I recall, it included quite a bit from Sammy's ex wife. I doubt that Sammy would have interviewed her about their break up and published it.

In end though, Sammy changed his mind about the book and sued the author to prevent him from releasing it.

I wonder if he'll explain more about the 2004 reunion and the connection to his Cabo Wabo franchise. Given he's claiming to "hold no punches," I wonder how honest he'll be about why he actually made contact with Al in order to get the whole thing rolling. And why a ghost writer? You're a smart, articulate guy, Sammy, write the fucker yourself. Just thinking aloud here......

There is a big difference between being smart and articulate and being able to communicate that by the written word.

Writing is hard work as well, and at this stage in his life, Sam might be more willing to talk into a tape recorder for a few days of interviews and let someone else write it, than spend months writing it himself.
