anyone that thinks this album doesnt kick major mofo ass is somewhere else. IMO, this is the hardest album VH did after the Roth days and, in some ways, kicks major ass over most(not all) of the older music. Check Judgement Day and The Dream is Over for reference. Opinions please..,

I think FUCK starts great and ends great, but there is some serious fluff in the middle of that album.

Would take Balance over FUCK as my deserted island CD, no comparison to me.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

"F.U.C.K" is straight ahead heavy rock live in the studio, with no ballads (I would'nt call Right now a ballad). "Balance" is a bgger and polished production, but "F.U.C.K" does it for me. Its my 2nd fave after "5150".

I think FUCK had a harder sound to it.

After the production on OU812, they came back with a vengence on this one!

FUCK is harder. I think that Balance can feel harder because its darker, but FUCK is more of a hard rock album. IMO

I think F.U.C.K. is probably more of a classisc hard rocker than Balance, but the quality of the production on Balance is superior. In fact, I think Balance was the pinnacle of Van Halen's sound. I think Eddie finally found the tone he was chasing, but it has since gotten away.

Poundcake was just awesome. An entire song based on harmonics--WOW!
Judgment Day makes you feel invincible, though the words are meant to admonish.
The Dream is Over is a great rocker that speaks of the reality of America's decline--more appropriate than ever.

Runaround and Top of the World are two fantastic pop-rock tunes, the latter still one of my favorites. Top of the World is awesome live, especially the solo.

In and Out has great lyrics and a killer guitar solo live.

Spanked and Man on a Mission are decent fillers.

Right Now was as much of a departure as Finsih What Ya Started was for OU812. A good song.

Pleasure Dome is so mysteriously cool. The tribal beat of the drums nearly leaves you entranced as Sammy guides you through the Madmax zone of carnal pleasure.

This record boasts some of Sammy's best lyrics and themes: Judgment Day, In and Out, Dream is Over, Right Now.

Still, after listening to Balance, I'm left with a feeling of what could have been when I contemplate F.U.C.K. and OU812. Don't get me wrong, I love both. I just wish Bruce Fairbairn had produced the previous two.

5150 stands on its own as a Van Halen masterpiece, though I would have replaced Get Up with I Want Some Action. And, Balance provides a great bookend to the Sammy era, and ultimately achieves the brown sound that Eddie had been missing since Fair Warning.

I hope to hear some feedback from the board.

I agree with you on most of FUCK, but disagree on Spanked, Man on a Mission and Pleasuredome. I skip them every time.

And I don't like Right Now. I did at one point in time, but I can't stand it anymore.

But Judgement Day is just an unapologetic ass kicker, love that tune.

Pleasure Dome to me is one of the hidden jewels of their catalog. I'll forget all about that song, then I'll hear it, and think DAMN, that song KICKS ASS! It just rocks.

I remember listening to the album premiere from 5150 studios on the radio in june of 1991.
Loved everything i heard but thought "Man on a mission" and "in n out" were weak.

    Never liked those songs.
That was the first time i heard VH songs that i didn't like up to that point.

Everything else on that album is great.

"Judgement day" has to be the best song on FUCK.

I don't like the sound of the album anymore, sounds very dated now.

Would love to hear an updated version of "Judgement day" though.
    That would be great!
