Default Halloween is still 10/31, right?

Stupid-ass town I live in. The local businesses give out candy for Halloween, which is cool. This year, since Halloween was on a Sunday and most businesses here are closed Sundays, they decided to do the downtown trick or treating on Saturday. Hey, not a bad idea. Except...

The majority of residents in town decided that since the downtown did their Trick or Treat thing on Saturday, they didn't have to hand out candy on Halloween. WTF??? Halloween is Oct. 31st, people. Been that way for several hundred years in some parts of the world. So, fuck you, I say!

Needless to say, my kid put on his costume last night, the actual Halloween, and we went out trick or treating. Fortunately, there were several homes in the neighborhood who were still giving out candy, but it was fucked up to see some of that candy being handed out by kids who should have been trick or treating. The streets were nearly dead, and we only saw 3 other trick or treaters out last night. On Halloween night.

This town sucks. It is full of backward, ignorant assholes who put their kids dead last on their priorities list. I need to get the hell out of here.

I'll trade. I don't think people started showing up until around 8P, and most of those seemed to be older kids. I remember very few small kids out there.

Last year it was on a Saturday and I would bet our doorbell rang 40-50 times.
Last night I doubt it rang 10 times.

Rang plenty at our place last night. We damn near ran out of candy.

    My issue though was this:
I can see if you're still a teenager and like to reach back to those happier childhood times of innocence when trick-or-treating was something you'd literally count down the days to. But when you're 18-20 years old, waltzing up my walkway dressed as the "slutty policewoman" with your loser boyfriend with his 'gangsta' pants halfway down his ass (this was no costume either) and asking for candy - then you need to get the fuck off my porch.

I didn't get any. I was hoping I'd be able to hand out candy for the first time in my own place.

went to a restaurant yesterday and the staff and many patrons were dressed up in costume

one girl walked past in her pajamas and I thought about how that was always the easy way out....put on a bathrobe and curlers in your hair and go as a housewife

then I realized that the rest of her group was not in costume and this girl was just another one of those teenagers who wears pajamas and slippers in public

    I hate that

I agree. Lets just show the world how unmotivated you are.

We got easily over 100 kids. There were 2 different houses in the neighborhood that set up haunted houses and the admission was a can of food for a local food party so that drew a lot of people to the neighborhood. We actually had a family of about 10 people show up where after all the kids got their candy the father counted down and they sang a quick 10 second Halloween song that they came up with. Almost like a cheer. Anyway it was a decent night, they stated arriving about 5:30 and died down around 8:30.
I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

it was really cold here last night (it actually snowed during the morning) but we still got about 70 kids. My brother (5 minutes away and in a bigger residential area) got about 20 kids. I don't get it.

Our doorbell rang about 6 times last night. At most we had 25 kids in total. Halloween is not how I remember it.

Also fun fact...Did you know that the first place in North America where people would go from house to house and shop to shop was in Kingston, Ontario, Canada and the term "trick-or-treat" originated in Blackie, Alberta, Canada?

    You watch 'Curb Your Enthusiasm?'

That reminds me of the Halloween episode where the two girls ring Larry David's doorbell and didn't have costumes on asking for candy. When he refused to give them candy, they left, and tee-peed his house and wrote "Bald Asshole" on his door.

    Fun little reminder

My buddy and I go trick or treating, but instead of going for ourselves, we take his little neighbors out and let them get the candy. It's a lot of fun, actually. I'd feel weird doing it myself nowadays.

I feel your pain. The dumb town I live in, since it fell on a Sunday, we couldn't trick or treat b/c of the "meaning" of halloween being a pagan holiday and all. It isn't like we're going out chanting "Hail Satan". Come on. If it falls on a Friday, we can't have it then b/c it interferes with the football team. Never mind that the football team hasn't been relevant in 15+ years. So it falls on a Saturday if it happens to be on any of those days.
