Default Mel Gibson in...then out of Hangover 2

Searched for this, but couldn't find it, so I am posting it.

Liam Neeson Replaces Mel Gibson in "Hangover 2"

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Mel out. Liam in.

Actor Liam Neeson has been given the cameo role lost by Mel Gibson in the sequel to comedy "The Hangover" after a revolt on set against the scandal-plagued Oscar star.

Hollywood showbusiness papers said on Friday that Neeson, star of "Love Actually" and "The A Team", would play a tattoo artist in "The Hangover 2", the follow-up to the raunchy 2009 hit comedy.

Neeson told Variety he "just got a call to do a one day shoot on 'Hangover 2' as a tattoo artist in Thailand, and that's all I know about it."

Gibson, whose reputation has been damaged by leaks of threatening phone calls to his ex-girlfriend, was dropped from the movie this week after unspecified objections by the cast. The "Mad Max" actor also offended Hollywood's Jewish community in 2006 with an anti-Semitic tirade that followed a drunk driving arrest . . .

According to TMZ, the cast knew about Mel a long time ago and signed off, though Zach Galifianakis didn't like it to begin with. Then once the story leaked, friends of the cast started putting pressure on them and finally the director and studio had to find someone else.

Interestingly, Liam Neeson and Gibson are repped by the same guy. Their rep confirmed that Neeson had now taken the role, but in a slight jab said that it was still "pending clearance of cast and crew background check."

So, if you've been convicted of misdemeanor DUI as well as said some things many people find offensive, you're not worthy of working with this cast.

However, if you're a convicted rapist, it's all good.

    Good message, Zach and crew...

Yeah that is pretty hypocritical. Tyson has done and said way worse than Mel has.

Also, since when did the cast of a movie have a say in regards to who else gets cast? Especially, if it's a cameo.

Too bad. I would have been looking forward to that movie a lot more than I already am, if Mel was in it.

What good is any cameo that gets headlines before it even happens?

You'd be looking forward to Hangover 2 because of Mel Gibson? Uh....ok???

Like Mel Gibson is a draw for a movie anymore. I think the last time I looked forward to a movie he was in was probably Lethal Weapon 4 (which sucked) about 15 years ago. Besides the fact that he's fucked in the head, he also hasn't made a movie worth seeing in over a decade.

I think it's funnier than hell they kicked his out. It's fun to watch a total and complete douchebag get black-balled from even a cameo.

They could have done it to Tyson too for all I cared, although for some reason Tyson doesn't come off as the racist, hateful, unapologetic, fuckstump Mel Gibson does. I almost think people see Tyson's life as a tragedy and Mel Gibson as just an unabashed asshole.

I think it is a bit hypocritical that the cast would basically threaten to walk off to work with Mel for one scene when they were willing to work with Tyson.

I'd imagine all of them would work with Roman Polanski too.

I've seen "The Hangover" twice, and neither time did I think to myself, "Gee, I can't wait to see what happens to these guys next". Seemed to say all that needed to be said in that one movie.

No but it's a funny movie, and certainly the last thing that matters is whether an irrelevant douchebag of an actor has a 2-minute cameo. Who cares either way, and why would Gibson's 2-minute appearance drive someone to see a movie more? Shit people don't even go to movies he stars in anymore. I'd say he needs the Hangover more than the movie needs him.

There aren't many movies that need to be sequels.

We were having a similar conversation at work today. It was fun, but nothing about it screamed "sequel".

I guess I would much rather tell Mel Gibson to take a hike than Mike Tyson, just based on the who is more likely to be able to kick the shit out of me scale.

    It's not about that...it's about $$$$$.

    It's the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time. Hence....sequel.

Also dude, where's your head at comparing a rapist to a guy who made some offensive remarks about Jewish people? I never knew making racist comments put you in the same category as a rapist. I guess just so long as you don't come off as a...."racist, hateful, unapologetic, fuckstump" you're good even if you rape somebody.

You're missing his point. It's how he's perceived. Tyson is viewed as a tragedy. Yeah he did terrible things and nobody's excusing him for that, but the fact is that he was a remarkable talent who completely threw his life away. And now he doesn't mind parodying himself.

    Thus, a tragedy.

Mel Gibson's just a horse's ass. I'm totally with Brett on this one.

Mel Gibson being or not being in this movie won't make me want to see this movie any more or less. Who cares.

Why? You're that big of a fan of Mel Gibson? LOL OK.

Also dude, where's your head at comparing a rapist to a guy who made some offensive remarks about Jewish people? I never knew making racist comments put you in the same category as a rapist. First of all, he has said a lot more than just anti-semitic shit. Hello?

Tyson went to jail, paid his dues to society second of all. Third of all, I don't give a shit what happens to him. If they wanted to blackball him from the Hangover, I would have been fine with that too, who cares about Mike Tyson. I'm telling you though that people perceive Tyson differently than Mel Gibson.

And I'm not comparing a damn thing. If Mel Gibson was in the Hangover 2, I'd still go see it. He's still a fucking douchebag cocksucker, and Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist. Neither one of them have any bearing on either movie.

Whoopie...now we got that out of the way.
