Default Chad confirms he won't tour with Chickenfoot

Drummer CHAD SMITH Confirms He Won't Be Able To Tour With CHICKENFOOT Next Year - Oct. 18, 2010
Drummer Chad Smith has confirmed to MusicRadar.com that he won't tour with CHICKENFOOT next year in support of the band's second album due to scheduling conflicts with his main group, the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.

Although Smith plans on taking part in the recording sessions for CHICKENFOOT's second album, he will be enable to go on the road with the rest of the band — Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Joe Satriani — because RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS will be touring in support of their long-awaited new album.

"I can't play in both bands next year," Smith told MusicRadar.com. "Believe me, I'd love to play with CHICKENFOOT and I'm pretty certain I'll be able to finish the second record. I'm really excited to get deeper into the mussy with those guys. Touring, though? I don't see how."

He added, "CHICKENFOOT started out as this fun thing to do, then it just got bigger and bigger. Everybody loves it — I love it, too. We have the best time together. But I got this other group. The PEPPERS have festival dates booked for the summer of 2011 already.

"It's funny — I'll be talking to Joe about CHICKENFOOT stuff, then when I bring up the CHILI PEPPERS he'll say, 'Man, I keep forgetting you're in another band.'"

When asked whom he would ike to stand in for him with CHICKENFOOT, Smith said, "I don't have a preference — it's whoever they want. I'm cool with it."

This just confirms what most of us thought. Nice to hear that he believes he will most likely be the studio drummer.

*sigh* I was holding out hope.

Chad says he's cool with it so...(shrug).

Here's hoping the PR blitz refrains from calling the fill in drummer a member. Chickenfoot featuring (fill in drummer) works for me.

Curious to see how they handle this.

    Whatever.

Sammy will probably bring in David Lauser.

CF should have fan poll for the new tour drummer.

At least he'll be on the album.

I thought the RHCP were done anyway. They haven't put out a quality product in a long time.

The three,in my mind, are David Lauser, Jason Bonham and Matt Sorum.

I'd prefer Lauser though. The dude is solid and his skills are very similar to Chad Smith. He's just not the personality that Smith is.

Holy shit, actual news straight from the mouth of an actual member of a band. What a concept.

The 'Foot will be fine. Chad does the studio recordings and someone else tours. Works for me. Would have been senseless to not tour just because of him.

I for one am pretty disappointed. Chad was definitely one of the highlights of the CF set I saw last month.

Jason Bonham is who I was going to post should be the fill-in. I mean....it's Jason Bonham. I don't think much more needs to be said.

Lauser doesn't have anywhere NEAR the drumming chops that Smith has. David is a damn good drummer but he's not even close to being as powerful as Chad behind the kit. Doesn't have NEARLY as good of a live drum sound either. Really thin. Not so much David's fault though. That has more to do with his tech and the drums he uses.

Sorum would be another logical choice seeing as Sammy and Mike have played with him prior.

Still sucks though that Chad can't tour with them.

    Simon Philips

In 2009, Simon Phillips joined with keyboardist Philippe Saisse and bassist Pino Palladino in forming an instrumental jazz/funk rock trio: Phillips Saisse Palladino or PSP, who toured in Europe in 2009 through 2010, spotlighting the talents of each performer in the songs chosen for their set list. Phillips also performed on Joe Satriani's "Super Colossal" Album, appearing on multiple tracks.

    Please not Lauser.

    Bonham is a great choice.

It's a bummer he won't be able to tour. But at least he doesn't have to quit the band over it.

No David Lauser. No Matt Sorum. I like both those guys well enough, but neither is right for CF.

Satch will know the right guy to bring in.
