God I hope not. Top gun is one of the few movies that DOESN'T need any kind of sequel. If they do a sequel, it will be a god damned CGI fest. Granted, CGI planes do look good and they can pass as photo realistic, a movie like top gun doesn't need CGI. Just film the actual planes like before and do model work where you have to but for the love of god, dont do CGI. Besides, I could have sworn that cruise has passed on this a few times. And have you seen Val Kilmer lately? Dude wouldn't be able to fit into a cockpit, let alone a flight suit.

If this does get made, it better have a DAMN good story, no CGI, and real aircraft footage.

BOISE STATE BRONCOS! - They're awesome. Deal with it!

11/16/04 - VAN HALEN in Boise, Idaho. Changed my life forever

8/8/06 - Sammy Hagar and the Wabos w/Michael Anthony in Boise, Idaho. Sam and Mike still kick ass

From what I've seen lately, the Maverick part will be minimal at best, if Cruise is even involved:

Nearly 25 years after Tom Cruise played iconic hero "Maverick" in the action film "Top Gun," Paramount Pictures is in discussions to revive the 80's cult classic, New York Magazine reported Thursday.

Viacom's Paramount Pictures is negotiating with the film's original producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott to work on "Top Gun 2" and members of the original cast will reportedly take part in the project.

Cruise's starring role in the original movie as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell will be much smaller in the sequel -- perhaps as a flight instructor, a source said.

The 27-year-old son of Oracle founder Larry Ellison, avid aviator David Ellison, is thought to be key in securing financing for the film. He has been influential in co-financing many of Paramount’s films -- including "Mission: Impossible 4," which will also star the 48-year-old Cruise.

At the July 22 London premiere of his summer action flick, "Knight & Day," Cruise denied he was involved in "Top Gun 2."

When asked if there was any truth to the rumors that a "Top Gun" sequel was on its way, Cruise immediately dismissed the speculation.

"No," Cruise laughed, without hesitation. "Sorry man."
I swear, it's like I'm playin' cards with my brother's kids or somethin'. You nerve-wrackin' sons-a-bitches.

Not sure why that article refers to Top Gun as a 'cult classic'. I don't care who you were, you were caught up in the Top Gun phenomenon. It was all around you. Nothing 'cult' about it.

Can't be any gayer than the original.

Have you guys tried watching that movie lately? Holy shit, I can't believe I actually sat through it 25 years ago.

Not sure how it was a cult classic? It was a blockbuster success...unfortunately.

I watched it a few weeks back on AMC and kind of have to agree with you, it was so over the top at times I cringed. At the time it was a cool flick but watching it now its a lot of cheese.

I never liked Tom Cruise, and Kelly McGillis was so not hot, I never liked that movie. I just laughed last time I watched it, wondering how the hell anyone went to see it. It has definitely not aged well. Days of Thunder was just as retarded.

I like three Tom Cruise movies....Risky Business, A Few Good Men, and the Firm. Other than that, he's the world's most annoying actor.

Maybe they should actually just remake the original, and make an actual good movie.

I hope they don't even do that. The 'I'm better than you" aspect is so over done. It's one of the reasons our kids are so me me me. Plus, I can't stand playing video games, so real action movies are my outlet. Keep the love story out of them.

Cruise's flicks have not been the powerhouses that they were before and i'm sure that there is probably some thought that with the sequel to Wall Street being so successful, a trip in the way back machine might resuscitate his career

but anyone who has seen a picture of Kelly McGillis lately will understand why she won't be on board for this flick

that chick didn't age well...at all

and Days of Thunder was SUPER retarded....they shot much of it in a small town in Florida that my family lived in and seeing how they turned a storage building into a laundrymat and a ball diamond into a race track was the only interesting thing about it....a 22 year old Nicole Kidman as a world class brain surgeon?....oh my god
