    Default 2012 Superman Movie

    http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=70356

    Zack Snyder Confirmed for Superman
    Source: Heat Vision, Deadline
    October 4, 2010

Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) has been officially confirmed as the director of the upcoming Superman reboot, reports Heat Vision.

Snyder's name recently appeared as a rumored candidate for the position and one of several directors on the Warner Bros. short list. Snyder himself revealed in 2008 that he was originally in line to direct Superman Returns, but that he was not interested in taking the job.

"They asked me to direct a Superman movie, and I said no," was Snyder's response more than two years ago, "He's a tricky one nowadays, isn't he? He's the king daddy of all comic-book heroes, but I'm just not sure how you sell that kind of earnestness to a sophisticated audience anymore."

Whether it is Snyder's view of the project or the new tone itself that has changed remains to be seen, but what is known is that the film will move forward with a script from David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan. Christopher Nolan will "godfather" the production, aiming for a late 2012 release.

Snyder's Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is currently playing in theaters and his next film, Sucker Punch, opens March 25th.

UPDATE: Deadline has just spoken with Snyder, who both confirmed his involvement and made the following statement:

"I've been a big fan of the character for a long time, he's definitely the king of all superheroes, he's the one. It's early yet, but I can tell you that what David [Goyer] and Chris [Nolan] have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I've always felt he was kind of awesome. I'll finish 'Sucker Punch' and get right at it."

UPDATE #2: Heat Vision is now reporting that the film's main villain will be General Zod, played by Terrence Stamp in Superman and Superman II.

Nah, Brandon Routh was ok, but you need an actor with some gravitas.

I just wish they would let go of the whole "reboot" concept. It worked for Batman, doesn't mean it's gonna work for every god damn movie in the universe!

I grew up on Chris Reeve and thought that "Superman Returns" was just awful and Routh was not so great.

I read that he may not be back and they will recast for the part of Superman.

I am pretty sure that I read that Routh will not be back in the new movie.

I thought Chris Nolan was directing the new Superman flick? At least that's what I remember reading here, some time ago.

EDIT: I guess he's writing it. But I thought he was directing as well.

Christopher Reeve's son, Matthew, has the look. I don't know if he acts.

He's producing, he and David Goyer are working on Goyer's idea for the story.

At least it isn't Nicholas Cage as Superman, I can remember when at one point he was the leading candidate. Bleh....

Default Look! Up in the sky...

    Sunday, January 30, 2011

British actor Henry Cavill has been cast as the next Man of Steel in the latest re-boot of the Superman franchise, according to EW.com.

Best known for his role as Charles Brandon on Showtime's The Tudors, Cavill, 27, will take on the iconic role in director Zach Snyder's film, which is expected to hit theaters in December 2012.

In a statement, Cavill expressed his delight at being cast in the role, which was previously held by the late Christopher Reeve in four feature films in the 1970s and 1980s and Brandon Routh in Bryan Singer's 2006 film Superman Returns.

Cavill was in the running to portray the Man of Steel in the 2006 re-boot, but was replaced by Routh after Singer took over the project from director McG, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Action movie fans who are unfamiliar with Cavill will become more acquainted with the actor after this November's Immortals is released, where he will portray the mythical Theseus in an ensemble cast that includes Mickey Rourke, John Hurt and Stephen Dorff.

Glad they didn't go with Routh again. There was something about that guy that was just too soft & doughy. I hope this movie kicks ass in a serious way. Every Superman movie so far has been done in a goofy, light comedy fashion. Hackman's Lex Luthor was surrounded by dolts, and Spacey's was just another variation of that. Maybe they'll take it in a whole new direction, since they can't seem to ever get Luthor right.

He is a good actor in the Tudors.

I as well hope they don't go the "campy" route for it.

All the Marvel/DC Universe characters get tumbled in my head now as I am an old man, so I don't know who would be a cool villain, but please leave Lex Luthor out of it, he has been done to death between the movies and Smallville, and he was never that interesting to me as a villain anyway.
