    Default Is this neck salvageable?

Hey guys, I have this guitar neck I bought in like '05 - '07 era on ebay for $20 shipped... Supposedly its from an American Strat neck that the dude broke and got reshaped. It had schaller locking tuners on it, its got a satin finish that I assume he put on himself. it feels really good in the hand, very smooth. He also had it routed for a floyd rose, Not neck thru screws. My question is, can I get this reshaped to a banana neck?
    here are some pictures..

You misunderstood me. I would have to mock it up, thats how Kramer did it
Also would use dowels or metal rods to keep the extra wood sturdy

Yes you COULD do it, using the methods you've mentioned. I've done that once to make a banana headstock out of an ibanez shaped headstock. Just get some maple, cut it down so it's the same thickness as the existing headstock, and dowel away. Plug the tuner holes too. Then once it's solid, you can cut it to the shape you want and redrill the tuner holes. You might wanna use epoxy instead of wood glue though when adding the paddle wood.

Well I didn't even use epoxy but I think I did a pretty good doweling job. The headstock's holding up fine, but the neck sucks due to an unrelated fingerboard issue.

Yep! It's do-able. Epoxy will definately be the route to take. I've got broken headstock repairs over 20 years old with epoxy. The worst being a Kramer banana. Only thing I'd suggest, and you're probably savvy already, is to recut the existing head to square it up easier, and get to some fresh clean wood for the epoxy to bond to. Who knows exactly what that finish is he put on? Epoxy doesn't like some types of finish, and some soak in quite a ways.
I think you've got a fighting chance here man!
I'd love to see the finished product.

Thanks guys! I'll get on with it. I have already a template printed out... Where can I get some rock maple? I phoned some places and they don't have the proper thickness, any online?

Will do. Well I had some spare time today, I swapped this neck with another I had on a Start. Man... I have never played on this neck before, but its a new favorite. Really the finish is just great, so are the jumbo frets. It plays itself. Really feels great. Also I noticed with the new neck the guitar is a lot louder unplugged. Hmm...
    Best $20 I ever spent.
