    Default KnE Asuza #28 Franky...

I recently aquired one of Mitch's Asuza #28 Franky bodies (I opted for alder this time around as I am just sick of filling and sanding the grain on northern ash bodies!)...

I immediately put a "mock build" together utilizing a two-piece maple/maple Divebomb neck and wired it up with a very old Dimarzio PAF that Kevin Smith of Smit's Pick-ups did some work on...

The result was a phenomenal sounding guitar... that Dimarzio pick up is incredible!!!

So, what next? Well, rather than building a R/W/B Franky like everybody and their mother is doing these days, I decided to go in a different direction... nothing radical, just something you don't see everyday so, I started with this pearloid Warmoth pickguard I had lying around for years now...

..and ended up settling on this combination...

    Video coming soon...

Are you going to do any relic work on this one? It has a nice vintage vibe!

I looked at the guitar this morning, and I thought it looked kinda bad with the color scheme. I just got home and looked at it again, and I think it actually looks pretty good with the pink and the pickguard, hehehe, go figure.

    Hahahaha, not at all.

    I don't know, maybe it's because I'm not a morning person.

    Thanks.
I did some relic work this afternoon...

In order to achieve the relic effect, I threw a set of keys at it, hit it with various tools (including a screwdriver, a small hammer and a metal saw!), dropped the tools on it, dragged it across the concrete floor of my basement and then used a combination of sandpaper, steel wool and a sanding sponge to shape the dings and scratches.

Yeah, Krylon "Gloss White" for the base coat and Krylon "Dusty Pink Gloss" for the top.

Have you ever tried relicing Krylon using extreme temps or with the compressed air/upside down technique? Wonder if it would work after it completely cured?

Most of the time it doesn't ever cure I have a handful of unfortunate guitars that are this way

But I'd assume extreme heat/cold would damage it in some way. I have used heat on krylon -- it didn't crack like a vintage finish... just kinda melted but it did make it look sort of burnt and older.

WOW! It looked melted? -HA! Soory... just trying to imagine what that looked like! I remember painting a guitar few years ago with Krylon and it was still soft like a month or so later when I buffed it. I think Jimi's guitar would look perfect with some age cracks.
