Ted Templeman's new work in 2010

We don't have to speculate about Ted, he's producing the new Doobie Brothers album released on Sep 28. From the Doobies wiki page:

"On July 6th, 2010, The Doobie Brothers announced a new album entitled World Gone Crazy, produced with their long-time producer Ted Templeman, which will be released on September 28th, 2010. The first single from the album, entitled Nobody can be listened to on their official website[4]. They have also announced plans to release a DVD compilation of live performances and television appearances from throughout the group's long career."

    From their web site:

“This album has been in the mix for five years, but we didn’t seriously start putting the nuts and bolts together until three years ago,” Johnston says. Simmons adds, “We had been compiling songs with the idea we would eventually do a record. Our old producer Ted Templeman came by tour rehearsals one day and was impressed with how we were sounding. He asked if we were doing any new material or thinking about recording. And that’s where it really started.”

Reuniting with Templeman, who produced all the band’s albums through 1980, greatly influenced the project. “I’ve got a lot of songs on my home studio hard drive,” Johnston says. “That was a boon of having Teddy involved. He came up to my house in Northern California and we went through everything.”

“Tommy gave him some demos and I did the same,” Simmons says. “It took off from there. He got together with both of us at different times, went through the material and collected certain songs he wanted to start with. We did a little warm up at a couple places and ended up cutting the basic tracks at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles.”

The project also gave Templeman an opportunity to address one of his longstanding frustrations. “Nobody,” the band’s first-ever single from their self-titled debut album, was never the recording Templeman hoped it would be – particularly the hard-to-distinguish rhythm section. “The nuts and bolts are the same, but there’s an intro that wasn’t there before,” Johnston says. “John’s doing a new Dobro part and the drum pattern is different.”

Seems Templeman is up and running, picking songs (like he used to do for both bands), and fully capable of producing a new VH record. Only an idiot would not use him at this point.

    Ooops.

Ted did some amazing things for VH but I personally think the doobies suck. One thing I hate more than Phil Collins is micheal McDonald.

The Doobies were with Michael McDonald only for a few years. They existed before and after him being the singer. And he's not part of this reunion.

So, I guess Ted will be freed up to work with another band that we know so well. Hmmm.....

I never was a fan of the Doobies. Didn't know Templeman produced them in the past. I guess that answers how McDonald got song writing credit on I'll Wait. I never could piece that together before...

I wonder if McDonald performed on I'll Wait? I doubt it, but it does not sound like Eddie's keyboard style.

No one got better result out of Roth than Teddy. Certainly not Glenn Ballard in 1996.

The thing is Ted gets involved with song choices. Ed would be like "let's make a song out of this great instrumental I have named "Catherine." Ted would be like "...I don't think so."

I thought 4UCK was the best VH album with Sammy. Coincidentally, Ted produced it.

One question though, why couldn't Ted talk them out of putting Spanked on it. I mean, that song just sucks.

McDonald co-wrote the keyboard parts from what I heard. I've always wondered if it was him playing it too, it would'nt surprise me.

Maybe, if people are still holding out hope that Ted produces the new VH album, they should bust out those leather chaps and bring along some midgets as well.
