Default September 11 - We Still Remember

It's been 9 years since that tragic day and one not to be forgotten.
Please take a moment to honor and remember all of those that perished that day, the finest and bravest of the NYPD and FDNY and all others who were affected one way or another.

Right now I'am thinking of all the people who jumped to their deaths rather than be burned alive. I'am also thinking of the people who fought back in the air and were killed in Pa. I'am also thinking of all our military who have given their lives in the conflict too.Let's Roll!

Unbelievable day. Unforgettable day. Here's to the survivors, and those that have had to carry on for those who didn't survive.

No matter what, politics do NOT matter today. Today is about the survivors left behind, and the loved ones they lost on 9/11.

I was on the air, in radio, at the time. I remember hearing about hte first plane, tuning in to the TV to see what was going on. At first the reports were saying a small commuter plane. As the time went on, nothing else was happening so I decided to do a commercial break when I saw the second plane smash in to the 2nd tower.

There were a few other people in the studio watching with me. I turned and looked atthem, forgetting my mic was still hot, and actually said, over the air; "Holy Shit...did you just see that?!?!?!" "A second plane just smashed in to the WTC."

Then I heard about the Pentagon, and immediately was concerned for my brother-in-law who worked there with the CIA. Luckily he was off, and his offices were located on the other side of the facility.

Then I heard of the plane in PA and all I could stammer out was; "Folks, I'm no expert, but I think we're under an attack of some sort." "One plane is a fluke, two is crazy, but four planes is a coordinated attack."

In honor & memory of the victims & survivors of 9/11.

I'll never forget it. Being in 7th grade and watching it on TV at school. Seeing the towers come down. I remember the sky being so eerily quiet for weeks after. And I'm always reminded how my parents chose NOT to go to New York for our vacation that week. God only knows what could have happened if I were in NYC that day.

On the eve of the anniversary, something a little strange happened last night. I was flicking channels and came across a movie "Executive Decision" released in 1996. In the scene I came across, they were referencing terrorists using a commercial airliner with a nerve agent onboard as a potential nuclear weapon. On that horrible day, I remember how shocking and paradigm shifting the terrorist tactic was to the public at large: using airliners as bombs. Is it possible that Hollywood gave them the idea 5 years before?

No, they got the idea from that Egypt Airlines crash off Nova Scotia in 1999(?) where the back-up pilot took the controls after locking himself in the cabin and then nose-dived into the sea. They could hear him praying on the cockpit recordings as the regular pilots banged on the cockpit door.

One thing at least has changed. When flying, any suspicious behavior and the crew or passengers will immediately take action. The 9/11 plot is impossible to replicate nowadays. And they haven't even tried. All the more recent attacks involved some kind of bomb that the terrorists (thank God) failed to detonate.

On Saturday, my GF and I chose to do what the terrorists were likely hoping to stop in our culture.....normal life. Economic activity.

One of the many places in the country that was shut down on that day in 2001 was Disneyland. We were still deciding what we wanted to do last Saturday when 10am rolled around and we thought "let's go somewhere that lots of people are...Americans living their lives and enjoying what the country still has to offer. Let's go pump a little bit of our meager cash back into the system and show that we're still doing what we Americans do - whatever the fuck we want".

So out we went into the sun-drenched day, not afraid of bomb-threats, religious fanatacism, security awareness levels, what have you.....

We lived a weekend like we usually do, and we had a blast. We changed nothing as a result of that cowardly mass-murder nine years ago. We ate, played, laughed, walked, talked. We, along with thousands of others that day, took back what we briefly gave up for a few hours back then.

Fuck you, terrorists. We're going to Disneyland.
