Default Aussies dont even realise Daves been back in band last 4 years!!!

Strange, but true. The news that Dave re-joined VH in 2006 hardly hit the newstands over here in aussieland. Even on The Today show a few weeks back, when they announced the new album, it said "Van Halen are reuniting with Dave again for a new album!!!". Basiccly, most music lvers over here (except for the die-hards) dont even realise VH toured with dave in 2007/8 in the USA.

I dont think the band in any shape or form has been to Aussie land since the ill fated Cherone VHIII tour. I hope they head over there again before time runs out for you guys.

Australians, sadly, barely seem to know of VH at all. The average person on the street will know Jump, but the only other song they're likely to know is Dreams. I recall the Herald Sun doing a "Best Deubt Albums of All Time" thing a year or two ago, and of the 40 albums listed, VH1 did not appear.

    Wow.

As I understand it, VH didn't catch on here until 5150. As with most bands, Australians were way too late to discover VH. If they'd toured here with DLR, or even Sammy, perhaps things may have been different.

That's just sad. Weren't there any MTV type channels back in the day over there?

Yes, but they just played Men At Work and Midnight Oil videos on a continuous loop.

In Australia's defense, technically Dave is in a band with Ed, Al, and Wolfgang. He is not currently in Van Halen.

Now someone get me Yvonne Strahovski's phone number, and a box of glazed doughnuts, to go.

I don't agree with that at all. Plenty of people are into VH here. I guess it just who you talk too. I agree, a lot of the young folk probably dont know them as like they wouldn't know much of Zeppelin, Hendrix, Floyd, The Beatles, SRV etc either.

Also, if your looking at the Hearld Sun for music knowledge, you're going to be disappointed...

VH took of big here in 1984... Probably because it had the 3 music videos. I remember seeing them all the time, at the time. Also, remember seeing YRGM a fair bit back them too. Also, Australia was one of only a few places to air the Loss Control video.

I've also been hearing VH on the radio quite a bit latley, which is cool, but you are right, it's always the same songs... Jump, WCTBL & Dreams. MMM have played HFT & Panama a few times too, which shocked the hell out of me.

Most people I speak to have no idea Dave is back and pretty much only know Jump and firmly believe that all VH is keyboard based 80s music. I try to do my bit by loaning VH1 and FW to people to spread the word, but I don't think anything will change until we get another tour. Can you believe '98 is the only time they have been here?!!? I would love to see them with Dave or Sam, but if not then at least I saw Eddie play Mean Street, Right Now, Romeo Delight and WCTBL in the one show!! Thank you Gary for that! April 20 1998 was a pivotal day in my life!!!

1984 was huge here. Everyone was playing it back in school, but that and 5150 were probbly the only 2 albums to really go heavily mainstream here.

DLRs first couple of solo albums done very well too, but by 1991 or so they lot of 'em had pretty much fell off the map

OU812 and F.U.C.K both went top 10. Think Balance just scraped top 10 but dissapeared quickyly.... the best magazine in australia at that time was "juke" and VH always had great features/interviews in it.

Thankyou. I was a journo for Juke and did many of the concert reviews and band interviews. Then Kerry Packer brought us out and closed it down. Kinda morphed into Australian Musician Magazine.
