Not sooo bad considering the guys below them. Ed himself reinvented how people play the guitar so that will always count for something. But i still see Van Halen as reinventing the rock n roll genre at the time!

Maddona is too high on the list and Tina Turner is waaaaay to high on that list, as is Nirvana

coldplay is just above REM and just below the Doors and talking heads really?

and Whitney Huston is ahead of Cream

I still don't get the nirvana love...I thought they sucked when they first came out and I think they suck now.

they talked about this on the radio yesterday and I think pearl jam is like in the 90's and nirvana is 14? there is that much discrepency between the 2? I don't buy that.

out of thier genre (hard rock) there are a few bands above them I think VH could knock off but I guess overall I'm not totally bummed out by that list. I mean G n R only really put out 3 records and they were huge for about 5 years. vh had sustained success with Roth and Hagar for almost 20 years....I dunno, that's the kind of stuff that pisses me off.

I too have never understood the fascination with Nirvana. I never have, never will. As for the #41, not terrible considering who came in ahead. I would put them higher for sure, but like anything else opinion polls are just that, opinions. That's all.

The problem is VH just kind of fizzled and all the drama and infighting took something away for the band's legend.

Hopefully a new album with DLR will make people take a second look at VH's body of work and they will come in higher on future lists of this type.

    Random thoughts on certain artists:

    1. The Beatles - can't argue with it
    2. Bob Dylan - I get his importance, but #2? No fucking way.
    3. Michael Jackson - He jumps all the way to #3 because he is dead?
    4. Led Zeppelin - should be #2
    11. Bob Marley - not a large enough body of work to be here
    12. David Bowie - always thought he was overrated
    13. The Who - always think they get under rated
    14. Nirvana - NO FUCKING WAY
    16. Madonna - See Nirvana
    22. The Clash - please - they knew three chords
    29. Radiohead - See Nirvana
    31. John Lennon - not his solo work, sorry Broken. A lot of his solo stuff sucks.
    36. Paul McCartney - see John Lennon. I actually think McCartney should be ahead of Lennon, but Lennon was always the critics darling and McCartney the pop pretty boy.
    40. The Police - should be higher
    41. Van Halen - ditto
    42. Metallica - ditto
    47. Jay-Z - really? Ahead of Public Enemy?
    54. Public Enemy - see Jay Z.
    55. Peter Gabriel - art house music, but ok.
    57. Iggy & The Stooges - I think they suck, but that is just me.
    61. Cream - way too low. They influenced half the people on this list.
    63. Notorious B.I.G. - please. I guess I don't consider a fat guy talking art, but that is just me. The cartoon about him in the seventies, Fat Albert was pretty good though.
    67. Coldplay - NOOOOOO!!!! Might as well put the Alarm or the Outfield on here.
    75. Rush - way too low
    87. George Michael - higher than the Bee Gees?
    88. Bee Gees - lower than George Michael?
    91. Green Day - they are on here and the Ramones aren't? Why don't they put the Bulletboys on instead of Van Halen?
    93. Pearl Jam - 79 places less than Nirvana? C'mon. I will take Soundgarden and Alice in Chains over both of them anytime however.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

DONATE TO THE LINKS YA CHEAP BASTARDS!!!!

    It's VH1 people. VH1.

Granted, had this list not come out, I would have missed out on this gem of a comment:

The thing I hate about these lists is that while do give credit to VH for being a band that made some noise they also penalize them for influencing melodic rock. I mean I understand the elitism that abounds through music critics but for a decade, it was one of the most popular genres of music. I know the glam put people off but you can blame David Bowie at 12 for that. Ohh I know its Bowie and he was cool dressing up like a woman. God never understood the fascination with that guy. I am not saying Poison should be up there on the list but VH did influence the whole Southern California scene of music for over a decade.

What did Sade do besides making great music to fuck to?

How in the hell does Neil Schon penalized for being in Journey which came in at 96. It's Neil Fucking Schon. Great guitarist and in the 70's great hair.

Coldplay at 67? A fucking U2 tribute band?

Genesis got jobbed at 62. I mean you are talking about a band with Gabriel and Collins. I know Collins gets a bad rap for his ballads but they are a great band.

Neil Young at 26? Great at smelling of BO and singing like somebody is castrating a cat with a rusty butterknife. Play his leads in the key of B Quiet.

How can Black Sabbath be ranked below Aerosmith is beyond me. Same goes for Metallica. They should be higher than GNR for sure.

Anyway VH probably should be in the 30's IMO. You are talking about a band with one of the premier guitarists and frontman in rock history. Then when you add Sammy, its a no brainer.
