Feds plan to indict Roger Clemens

NEW YORK The New York Times reported on its website Thursday that federal authorities have decided to indict Roger Clemens on charges of making false statements to Congress about his use of performance-enhancing drugs.

The Times said it based its report on information from two people briefed on the matter and said an announcement is expected in the near future.

Clemens and his former trainer, Brian McNamee, testified under oath at a hearing before a House committee and contradicted each other about whether Clemens had used the banned substances.

The committee held the hearing in February 2008.

McNamee has told federal agents, baseball investigator George Mitchell and the committee that he injected Clemens more than a dozen times with steroids and human growth hormone from 1998-01.

Clemens has maintained that McNamee was lying.

Rusty Hardin, Clemens' lead attorney said he was unaware of a pending indictment.

"We've heard nothing," Hardin said by telephone from Houston, "so I can't knowledgeably respond at all."

Earl Ward, one of McNamee's lawyers, said he, too, "had no indication something was coming."

Yeah, we got bigger problems, let's go ahead and let people lie under oath...I don't understand why this issue is trivialized so often. The whole "Clinton got impeached for a blowjob" is so idiotic. He got impeached for perjury.

This is his own fault. He wasn't subpoenaed to come, he came voluntarily, testified, and lied. I wouldn't be surprised to see him serve time.

He will get his day in court. However,I do think he lied. It is a small crime comprared to the shit that goes on up on the hill.

But should there have been a federal case to begin with where he had to testify? Obviously the President needs to be accountable on a federal stage but I'm having a hard time justifying money that has been spent to prosecute athletes who used an illegal substance. Should every drug user be prosecuted this way? Now the feds are spending millions going after Lance Armstrong. I guess I have different priorities for federal tax dollars when we are borrowing money hand over fist from China and have a deficit in the trillions of dollars. Maybe I just don't get the big picture.

He didn't have to testify, that is the mystifying thing about it.

If he had not VOLUNTARILY gone before Congress and testified, he wouldn't be under charges for perjury.

It is a big deal, our entire judicial system is based upon people telling the truth when under oath.

Martha Stewart went to jail for lying to the Feds, not for insider trading.

Clemens is an idiot, there was no way he could ever prove he didn't use steroids, the only possible outcome of this was either a no change in public opinion or him getting his ass thrown in jail for perjury. The Feds have an over 90% conviction rate, they don't make charges unless they think they will win.

He should have just made a statement saying "there is no way I can prove that I didn't take PED's" and gone on with his life.

    What an idiot.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

add vindictive, mean and arrogant to the list. Clemens, no matter how many wins he might have brought to his various teams he not exactly a great guy. I'm sure he has some really nice personality traits and all that but damn, this guy just has a lot of negative juice flowing through his veins.

Though he did buy a bunch of gear from my buddy a few months ago...apparently Toby Keith came over for a jam session at Clemens' house a while back and Roger needed to stock up on the basics: mic stands, cables, monitors, strings, picks and the like.
    Stay out of it, dude.

EGO...pure and simple, his pride made him go to any lengths to protect his reputation, legacy and future marketability.

best thing he can do now and really the only thing he can do to protect his legacy is just cooperate and take his punishment .... Marion Jones did

haha...yeah. My friend works in music retail and Roger apparently has a studio in his home here in Houston. He noodles around with bass and guitar and has a bunch of musician friends. He came into my buddy's store and said "I hear you're the only person in Houston I'm supposed to buy gear from and I need to buy some gear because my friend Toby Keith is coming over tonight to jam."

It happened about 2 months ago.
