    Default The Katy Perry Thread

Katy Perry is singing some of the best produced pop music that the Music Industry has come out with in quite a while.

I'm not big fan pop music in general, but, I dig this single from her upcoming album "Teenage Dream":

I have to admit, she's not bad for pop. A couple of her songs are quite catchy, and yes, on my ipod. However I'm not a big fan of her stage persona and image. It's like slutty pinup meets Candyland on bad acid.

According to the New York Post, representatives for the Beach Boys are threatening to sue Perry for including the classic line "I wish they all could be California girls" in her tune. The line is lifted from the Boys' 1965 rock classic "California Girls," and the paper reported that publishing reps at the Boys' Rondor Music have sent a letter to Perry's label demanding that the original song's writers, Mike Love and Brian Wilson, be given a writing credit on "Gurls" as well as a share of royalties.

An unnamed recording industry source reportedly told the paper: "Rondor Music has sent a letter to Capitol on behalf of Mike Love and Brian Wilson, saying Katy has cribbed one of the most famous lyrics in history, so Love and Wilson should be entitled to a writing credit and a portion of the royalties."

The iconic line is rapped by Snoop Dogg near the end of Perry's song ("California girls, man/ I wish they all could be California Girls"), which, ironically, was recently praised by Love. "The subject matter is still in vogue just ask Katy Perry. I think the part she did is pretty cool. There are a lot of writers on it, and I think it's probably a stroke of genius to have the king of canine cool, Mr. [Snoop] Dogg, do his thing. But I think her creative part, her musical part, is pretty hooky. I think it brings the Beach Boys' 1965 classic to mind, that's for sure," Love told Billboard. Wilson has called the song "infectious."

Sources reportedly told the Post that Wilson and Love asked Rondor to send the letter, but spokespeople for the musicians said it was Rondor's decision. "Rondor owns the track and called Brian and Mike, saying they were going to complain. Brian likes Katy's record and doesn't know where the situation stands," according to Wilson's rep, while Love's rep added, "Mike and Brian wrote the song ... but any legal action is up to Rondor."

Well, it's Rondor acting on their own, and NOT "representing" The Beach Boys, that is threatening to sue.

I don't know what will come this, but, I think that Snoop's mention of the Beach Boys song is to pay homage to the song. I guess they may end up paying a little more than homage....

    Whatever's fair though.

It seems that her video, "Teenage Dream" is about 20 year olds. But, really, I see the record company's target buyers and listeners as tweens. I wonder how many 9 year old girls will have "teenage Dream" on their i-pods.... ? ? ? ?

I love dark hair and blue eyes. Where Zooey Deschanel is gorgeous, Katy Perry is just hot. I'm not a big pop fan by any means, I'm subjected to it at college gatherings and such so I'm familiar with it. That being said, I prefer her pop music to that of Ke$ha who has this boring party-party-party thing going on.

LOL! This is true, I just seem to find her the aesthetics of her work somewhat ominous. I don't know, it just doesn't sit well with me

I'm not really sure whats going on with her voice.

It has that weird pitchy, crackly thing going on most of the time and i find it distracting and annoying more than fun.

Some of her stuff is catchy but eh theres better stuff out there.

I like her. Again, the qualifier is "pop tunes". She's a great pop tune writer. I'm not ashamed to say I enjoy some pop if it has a good hook. A couple of songs Kelly Clarkson recorded were co-written by Katy Perry. I like them too...

Brian Wilson and Mike Love released statements saying they did not want the lawsuit to go forward and Brian even complimented her on the tune and on her career.

I was surprised to hear Love saying he didn't want to sue...perhaps he's mellowing in his old age.

I too would like to hump Katy Perry.
    Stay out of it, dude.

For some reason I find a lot of her songs catchy and while the lyrical content is a bit subpar, her cans are absolutely fabulous.

Oh I want to hump her as well but you probably already know that because I made mention of her cans.

Oh yeah and she has really nice eyes which tells me that she he also has great cans.
