Default Game (sort of): Who has been in the highest number of Big-ish bands?

Use your own definition of big-ish.

If anyone can top Cozy Powell I'll be surprised.

Aynsley Dunbar has played with some big names (Bowie, Jefferson Starship, Journey for starters), and if you can combine the Appice brothers (Carmine and Vinny) output, they're up there, too!

Oh, and can't forget Paul Carrack!

The game-ish rules should be specified that the musician that you're throwing into the ring has his/her credits under the name.

    Aynsley Dunbar:
The Jeff Beck Group, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, UFO, Whitesnake, Journey, Jefferson Starship, Lou Reed, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Sammy Hagar, Jake E. Lee

    Cozy Powell:
Bedlam, Cozy Powell's Hammer, The Jeff Beck Group, Rainbow, MSG, Whitesnake, Emerson, Lake & Powell, Blue Murder, Gary Moore, Black Sabbath, The Brian May Band, Peter Green Splinter Group

    Paul Carrack:
The Eagles, Warm Dust, Ace, Roxy Music, Squeeze, Mike + The Mechanics

    Just to cite examples.....

If we're counting out and out session guys and recorded output, I'd say Steve Lukather has done pretty well too.

For example, Dianna Ross, Alice Cooper, Hall and Oates, Johnny Mathis, Olivia Newton John, Leo Sayer, Cheap trick, Cher, Earth wind and fire, Manhatten TRansfer, John Mayall, Lee Ritenour, Boz Scaggs, George Benson, Peter Cetera, Randy Crawford, Don Henley , Michael jackson, Kim Carnes, Stevie Nicks, Chaka Khan, Paul McCartney, Chicago, Lionel Richie, Art Garfunkel, Belinda Carlisle, Richard Marx, Michael Landau, Dweezil Zappa, Cozy Powell, Van Halen, Wilson Phillips, Tommy Lee, Todd Rundgren and of course, Toto.

The jazz guys probably beat everyone though. They swap bands like it's nothing.
A man could lose himself in a country like this.

how about artists who weren't maybe in particular bands, but appeared on a lot of hit records over a couple of year period? Such as Michael McDonald on the late '70s Doobie Brothers albums, but also "Peg" by Steely Dan and "Ride Like The Wind" by Christopher Cross and "This Is It" by Kenny Loggins?
And then you have in the early '80s Phil Collins being on about every record that came out - Genesis of course, and his solo records, plus also the first two Robert Plant albums, the Frida album and he played also on an Eric Clapton album in that same time period.

Anyone can count, I'm just curious what suggestions come up!

Bassist Neil Murray's another man who has done well for himself - often aside the afforementioned Mr. Powell.

    Junior Marvin's Hanson 1973-1974
    Cozy Powell's Hammer 1974-1975
    Whitesnake 1978-1982
    Gary Moore 1982-1983
    Whitesnake 1983-1987
    Vow Wow 1987-1989
    Black Sabbath 1989-1991
    Cozy Powell's Hammer 1992
    The Brian May Band 1992-1994
    Black Sabbath 1994-1995
    Peter Green Splinter Group 1996-1998
    The Brian May Band 1998
    Company of Snakes 1999-2002

He's in the huge We Will Rock You musical in London now...other than that his profile's sank, but Junior Marvin, Gary Moore, Whitesnake, Vow Wow, Black Sabbath, Brian May, Peter Green....used to work with everyone.
