House Fairy in Snit Over Ferry!

Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi's loyal House fairy, is also a roaring tightwad according to a report from the NY Post.

"Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank caused a scene when he demanded a $1 senior discount on his ferry fare to Fire Island's popular gay haunt, The Pines, last Friday.
    NY Post

According to the story in the New York Post, the ticket clerks at the Sayville dock said he needed a Suffolk County Senior Citizens ID. A witness apparently said he took pity on poor old Barney and was considering giving him the dollar he needed.

The Post went on to say "Frank made news last year when he was spotted looking uncomfortable around a bevy of topless, well-built men at the Pines Annual Ascension Beach Party.

This story was then confirmed by Barney Frank's spokesperson, who said it was Barney's partner, James Ready, who asked for a regular ticket for himself and a senior ticket for Barney.

I just knew it - Barney is gay, that's why I don't let my kid watch him after school.

In all truth, I didn't know Mr. Frank pitched for the other team. Learn something new every day. As for him bitching about $1 and Congress is spending our country into the shitter... give me a f'n break douchebag, it's a dollar get over it. You don't have the right ID, so you don't get certain perks - knob polisher!!!

Apparently he has no problem spreading his ass and taxpayers money around, but not his own money.

My brother does a drop dead impression of Bawney Fwank by the way. It's hilarious!

Even though it's Barney whom I am not a big fan of, sometimes these situations are the principal of the thing. If you're offering a discount, you need to honor it. Now in this case, he was suppose to have a senior card however, I see nothing wrong with asking for a discount regardless of who you are or how much money you have/make. If a company is offering a discount or a coupon, why not use it?? My coworkers laugh at me all the time because I keep my little blue coupon holder with me and I usually have a coupon to use when I buy my lunch. It seems more silly to me to pay full price even though I could afford it. I probably save a nice little chunk of money over the course of a year.

I just wish Barney would use this same mentality with the Federal Budget. We need to be watching every dime and saving every dollar that we can.

the problem is not that politicians and wealthy people ask for discounts, it's that they don't expect us common folk to. This isn't half as bad as that deal with Kerry docking his boat in a different state after raising taxes on his own state, but I hope you understand what I'm getting at. This is only comical because they're making it seem as though he made a big ordeal out of it.

You say things with much more tact than I do. I have too much of a "Go fuck yourself!" attitude when it comes to these things, which is why I normally try to stay out of these threads these days.

Very well put. They all (Republicans, Democrat, Independent, and whatever else might be out there) need to adopt a spend less attitude.

You'll also have to get their constituents to adopt a take less attitude.

Yes, I understanding exactly what you're meaning. My take on this particular situation is that because it was Barney, there was probably someone who didn't care for him that made it seem as though he was having a hissy fit over a dollar. I wasn't there and maybe he did, then again, maybe he takes this ferry all the time and the attendant should recognize him by now and he was irked that they asked for a card, as he should be.

These type of silly stories just bug me with the fact that they are so petty. They're like stories by kids in high school spreading gossip that may or may not be true. With so much bull crap going on, it would seem that there are more important stories to cover. How about more human interest stories about the good that people are doing for each other during these hard times.

Barney came out of the closet I think back in 1987.

Then in 1991 Barney boy was busted paying a male prostitute $80 for sex. The same male prostitute then moved in with him and ran a male prostitution ring out of Barney Frank's home.

In 1991, Barney Frank received an official reprimand for reflecting "discredit upon the House." The reprimand came as a result of his relationship with a man named Steve Gobi, a male prostitute whom Frank initially paid $80 for sex. Frank later took Gobi to live with him in his home, making him a personal aide. He paid him $20,000 in compensation (unreported to the IRS) and let him use his car. Subsequent investigation revealed that in the course of their relationship, Frank used his congressional office and stationary to fix Gobi's 33 parking fines. Frank also used his congressional letterhead to write a reference letter to Gobi's probation officer -- Gobi was under court supervision as a convicted felon with a prison record -- in which he gave false information. Most damningly, the investigation found that Gobi ran a prostitution ring from Frank's home.
