    Default Eddie /Thomas Dolby

For those of you who haven't heard it yet, here are the 2 songs Eddie worked on with Thomas Dolby way back in the early 90's I think. I haven't heard these until today, so it's sort of like hearing some new VH for me.

    Great songs!
I bought that tape in 1992.
Eddie recorded the guitar tracks at 5150 onto Thomas's computer.

That was the first time i ever heard Eddie use a
    Wah Wah besides on FUCK.

But then again these songs were recorded around the same time as FUCK.

First time for me as well.

I wonder how he got passed the whole "you can't be in two bands thing." There must be an out clause if your initials are EVH.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Vhin04 -- Thanks for finding this. I've always wondering what those 2 songs with Thomas Dolby sounds like. The "Close Cigar" song is pretty catchy, with some very tasteful yet restrained guitar licks. I was waiting for Ed to explode and it never happened...which was a good thing for that particular song.

Ya it was a total fluke that I found this. I was cruising Youtube for something else and out of the corner of my eye I saw the Dolby/EVH link. I like the way Eddie comes in and out of Close withouth being present for the whole song. It's different and refreshing. Heard about these tunes for well, about two decades, but never encountered them.

If anyone has Ed's 1978-79 appearance on that Nicolette Larson track that would be cool, never heard that either.

This is from wikipedia, for those of you not familiar with the story
behind Ed's guest spot on her debut...

Larson also contributed a harmony vocal on the track "Could This Be Magic" on the Van Halen album Women and Children First (1980) to thank Eddie Van Halen for contributing a guitar solo to the Nicolette album track "Can't Get Away From You" against David Lee Roth's wishes. (Larson would be the maid of honor at Eddie Van Halen's marriage to Valerie Bertinelli.)

Cool! Thanks for that. Interesting to hear a young Eddie in a different context. Interesting also Dave's opposition...he seems to have been against Eddie appearing on recordings outside of VH. I remember him telling the story of the first time he heard Beat It. Apparently he didn't know Eddie did that favour for Jackson...he was pulling away from a 7/11 with a slushie and he heard it on the radio. Maybe Eddie picked up his can't be in 2 bands at the same time hang up from Dave!
