Default Stryper covers album samples incuding "On Fire"

They actually sound pretty good in my opinion http://www.stryper.com/thecovering777/

I thought it was ok. Nothing really special. Probably because I never really liked Stryper when they were big in the late 80s.

Been a fan of Stryper since their first album - Yellow & Black Attack, I believe in 1984-85.

Not bad. They're an established rock band doing covers of other bands. They're not a cover band trying to nail the essence of a certain band.

That little bit of the Kansas tune was righteous.

I liked "On Fire", thought they did a good job with it.

Looks like they panned it the same way as well, as Ed's lead was coming solely from one speaker.

I listened to The Trooper and Carry on My Wayward Son, and I think they hit both of them out of the park.

Not a huge Stryper fan, I did like the album with "To Hell With the Devil" on it.

Couldn't stand their super sugary ballads.

But obviously, these cats can play. I know almost nothing about them, but damn, seems their guitarist can wail. Wish they had a sample up for Over The Mountain.

"We performed 'On Fire' by VAN HALEN on a few tours and we also performed 'Breaking The Law' by PRIEST on this last tour. The response was far beyond our expectations each time we performed these songs. People seemed genuinely surprised to hear STRYPER cover these songs and even more surprised to hear STRYPER perform these songs relatively well.

Never much of a fan of Stryper but the cover is very good. These guys obviously can play. Like many 80's bands, there were a lot of real musicians in the mix. Sounds like they really tried to do this one justice!

What makes the VH studio cut of "On Fire" so great though (and much of VH1 for that matter) is the that the boys seem to be playing as if it is all spontaneous but with a barely controlled force and energy that is difficult to capture when doing a cover. Hard to put it into words...but it is beyond the music...

I often find that when bands try to cover VH, the weakest link is the drums. People focus on nailing EVH and the vocals, and for them the drums are an afterthought. Big mistake coz Alex's swing on those early VH cuts really makes the band.
That's the difference between a groove drummer like AVH and time keepers like the drummers in Priest and AC/DC.

I thought the drummer didnt do a good job on the drum part of "On Fire."
