Default Seeking advice on new photography equipment

Back in the day, I really enjoyed photography as a hobby....did mostly black and white architectual elements, some landscapes...used color only for photos of my garden which I plant with unusual specimens....used an Olympus SLR and developed the B/W prints in my own darkroom

so now, after giving it up for child rearing and business demands, I'm looking to get back into it.

I no longer have a darkroom and I'm considering what new digital equipment to buy and what I would need for a versatile set up and photo editing or whether to just stick with my old dinosaur and shoot film (!) which I would have to send out for processing

kicking around ideas, and in this economy, I don't want to spend a fortune

    anybody got any suggestions?

I have to say, I've always preferred film cameras over digital. Are you familiar with Holgas? They're an inexpensive line of dirt cheap film cameras from Europe. They come with many features to do all kinds of great effects, and one of the benefits to it's cheapness is how it's effected by light. Some of the best pictures you can shoot with this are shot in direct or indirect sunlight, street lights etc. The starter kit is only $59.99 on Amazon. Just a thought, I don't know much about digital but this one I really enjoy

PS- Double exposures can be AMAZING on this camera!

Just check in your area before you decide. Lots of Supermarkets in this area will no longer process film. Meaning you have to go to a smaller store and pay a little more.

I had a Rebel SLR before. Switched to digital Rebel SLR - absolutely love it. No more waiting to develop the film to see how many pictures are actually good.

My wife has been doing photography as a side job for awhile now and been doing really good with it. She has the Rebel XTi and loves it. I think you would save money in the long run going digital.
