Default Mosque near Ground Zero to open on 9-11-11

    http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/b...LoSnqxwPROdW7J

About 1,000 people, waving U.S. flags and signs that read "No 9/11 Mega Mosque," turned out Sunday to protest an Islamic community center and mosque planned near Ground Zero.

The protesters condemned the proposed 13-storey Cordoba House to be opened in a former Burlington Coat Factory on Park Place - two blocks from Ground Zero, where nearly 3,000 people died when terrorists crashed planes into the World Trade Centre. The house would include classrooms, a fitness center and a mosque.

The project's boosters say it would be similar to the 92nd St. Y, and has the backing of the local community board and many politicians in lower Manhattan. However, the proposed mosque has drawn criticism, including a blast from a senior Tea Party leader, who said it would serve as a tribute to the 9/11 terrorists "for the worship of the terrorists' monkey-god."

    THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11
The mosque will open. That has been approved, much to the dismay of many New Yorkers and probably to the dismay of most Americans.

The building where the mosque will welcome the faithful to prayer was damaged by the fuselage of one of the jets which was flown into the Twin Towers on 9/11. That's how close it is to Ground Zero. A short two blocks.

Cordoba House is bankrolling the 13-story mosque and Islamic Cultural Center. Cordoba House is associated with CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations.

On the website for Cordoba Initiative, the banner on the top proclaims 'Improving Muslim - West Relations'.

Reading on: "...aims to achieve a tipping point in Muslim - West relations within the next decade..."

CAIR, on their web site, "seeks to empower the American Muslim community by encouraging Muslims to become activists in social and political groups".

Cordoba House took its name from Cordoba, Spain. In the Middle Ages, Cordoba was the capital of an Islamic Caliphate.

Muslims think of that as the Golden Age of Islam. Christians, Jews and Muslims lived together in Cordoba. But not in any sort of equality. The Christians and Jews had to acknowledge Islamic superiority. They had to wear badges identifying themselves as Christians or Jews. They could not give evidence in a court of law. They could not intermarry with Muslims. They were restricted to where they could live, build churches and synagogues, and every aspect of their lives was regulated by Islamic Law.

A spokesperson for Cordoba House said they want to provide an opportunity to educate the American people about Islam.

The one-hundred-million-dollar mosque and Islamic Cultural Center will house a swimming pool, a basketball court, a 500-seat auditorium, classrooms and offices. The public will be invited to enjoy the facilities.

Might this Islamic Cultural Center be a recruiting center?

A spokesperson for Cordoba House explained they want to combat misunderstandings about Islam.

Many New Yorkers believe they understand quite well. They see this mosque just 2 blocks from Ground Zero as an aggressive, in-your-face determination by Muslims to downplay the role of the Muslim terrorists on 9/11.

People on the street are saying, "They know they're offending us. They want to offend us".

"They are showing they have no respect for the people who died on 9/11".

"I saw a Muslim on TV last week talking about how Americans have to be sensitive to Muslim feelings. Show me how this is sensitive to Americans' feelings!"

"This is as close as they can get to Ground Zero", one man explained. "If they could build this mosque right on the site of the Twin Towers, they would".

That statement brought to mind how the Dome of the Rock was built on the site of the second Jewish temple. Inside the Dome of the Rock is the Foundation Stone, an actual stone, which Jews believe marks the holiest place on earth, the place where the Holy of Holies once stood. Within the Holy of Holies was the Ark of the Covenant, and within the Ark were the 10 Commandments.

Islam claimed the site for themselves and built the Dome.

For that matter, Islam also took the Old Testament and the New Testament and Jesus for themselves.

"This is a bold show of their sense of superiority", another New Yorker against the Ground Zero mosque declared.

Ground Zero is the site where the World Trade Center once stood above the New York City skyline. Thousands died there at the hands of Muslim terrorists. 9/11 was the day our hearts broke and our eyes were opened to the threat of Islamic terrorists.

And now there will be a 13-story mosque nearby, where people who sympathize with the poor misunderstood peace-loving terrorists can learn all about Islam and how the world has not treated them right just because they want to impose Islam on everyone.

Who thinks they'll have 9/11 Truther propaganda displayed prominently?

And whether they really will have their grand opening on 9/11/11 remains to be seen

I was wondering when this would make its way to the links. I've been following this for a couple months now. I don't know if it's still there, but at one point, back in April, the mosque's website had a giant banner on it asking for donations to complete the mosque that said "help us raise the flag of Allah over Manhattan!" It went on with something in Arabic and then said something to the effect of let us bring the Muslim message to Ground Zero as we open our doors on 9/11/11.
    Stay out of it, dude.

I've been thinking about this for a long time. And about the military guy in Ft Hood Texas that shot up his fellow servicemen because he didn't want to go back to Afghanistan to kill other muslims.

It seems there's a shift toward allegiance to religion moreso than any other movement. Maybe this is only muslim viewpoint, but because it's the fastest growing religion in the US, more people are noticing.

So now we have people that will kill friends, coworkers, and even family so they won't kill a perfect stranger of another country because they are the same religion. This is a scary thought. Radical religious nutjobs infiltrate all other aspects of the world to promote their religion and kill everyone that doesn't believe what they believe.

This didn't work during the crusades or the inquisition. It isn't going to work now.

I don't like it all, but since they are (from what I have read, no proof) allowing sex shops a block away from the memorial, they don't have a legal foot to stand on to remove it.

I think the saddest part about this is that it's just taking attention away from the fact that Ground Zero is still just a big hole after 9 years.

Not even a memorial has been built.

Sad that the first thing to bring attention back to Ground Zero is the building of a mosque close by.

Let them build the mosque but then build SOMETHING at Ground Zero.

And just to round out the sadness factor.....

The fact that 1,000 people had the time and effort to protest this is pretty sad as well.

I'm getting old. In my teens or 20's, I would fight something on principal to the death because that's what I believed you were supposed to do. I was an active member on the panel that stopped an airport from being built at El Toro Marine base and to those who don't know, if you were to fly to Southern California, you would have been landing here instead of LAX if they had their way.

In my 30's, I got wiser about life and listened to the age old addage "Chose your battles wisely" and chose to make my living and have a good time. A cause or concern comes up here and there that I care about and would sacrifice myself to lend a hand to (see anti illegal immigrants) like anything to do with abused children with abusive parents, once in a while feeding a homeless person instead of telling them to get a job, you know, philanthropic crap like that.

I see things like this and I realize that this being America, none of us have to like this mosque being put near ground zero or the name allah being mentioned on the isle of Manhattan, but it is the constitutional right for muslims to be free from religious persecution and the right to peacefully assemble to worship, regardless of anything. It just shows them that America is everything their piece of shit countries aren't.

I'll tell you what a slap in the face to the families should be. Perhaps the fact that Ground Zero is nothing but a big hole. No memorial. No building. Nothing. Nothing to commemorate the 3,000 people that had their lives taken on 9/11.

Another slap? The fact that minutes from Ground Zero there are sex shops and porno shops. That doesn't seem to bother anybody.

They have every right to build a Mosque near Ground Zero. But perhaps if something had actually been BUILT at Ground Zero after 9/11 as a sign of remembrance to the lives that were lost, people wouldn't be shitting their pants over a Mosque that is being built close by.

And yes, I envision all the Muslims in the Mosque, in their robes, after conducting their prayer giving each other high fives chanting: "We have won! We have won! We have won! Victory is ours!!!"

It's just a Mosque. Not a porno shop.

    Wait.

you have sent men to the moon strapped on rockets with guidance control systems with little more computing power than a calculator and you can't grow a pair to stop this nonsense?

islam is on your shores and unabashedly taking a stand at ground zero.

i say we crash an airliner into the mosque at mecca and then build a McDonalds in its place!
why is this being allowed? if it were the other way around people would be burning flags and blowing themselves up to stop it, it would appear that the U.S.A. is begining to pander to these fucks the same way that the British government has done for the past few years.
