Default The Timing of it All Flashback

I was just re-reading this and find how they all have twisted the truths a bit and all seem to be at fault. Maybe we do need to relax on Eddie a bit pre-2004.

3/4 of this is unsubstantiated and is obviously just from VH's point of view. It pretty much just makes sam out to be the devil while ed stands around with his hands in his pockets going "awww man, I just wanna play". there was alot more going on there. it's probably all ray daniels versions of what happened notice they say he wrote songs for Eric Martin...no one else has ever mentioned this. not eric, not sam, no one. why is that? cause it didn't happen and it was just used to pile on sammy and make him look like the bad guy. it's the same as "his work ethic sucked"....those words and what has happened in the last 15 years speak for themselves.

There are four people who know what REALLY happened back then and I'm pretty sure that none of them will post in this thread.

And, at this point, does it really matter? The band broke up which has led to a Spinal Tap-like existence for the past 13 years or so. As for me, I'm happy with the music I got from them and I don't believe I'm owed anything - certainly not an explanation of why four people didn't get along at a certain point in time.

Well I am a firm believer that there are two sides to every story and neither is right. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

There are only two things I can say for certainty with the downward spiral of VH.

    1. If Sammy was so mistreated, I doubted that Mike would have stuck around considering that it was going to Dave or some poor soul (Gary Cherone) who would fail regardless of talent due to the pressures of the job. If he knew Sammy was given the shaft and stuck around because of the money, then he sold out a friend and loses his "class act" status.

    2. Eddie and Dave phoning each other proves that at some point in history, Eddie knew how to use a phone.

I was a member of the original mailing lists and reading the original VH News Desk. I remember hearing the news on the radio that "Sammy quit." A few days later Sammy contradicts his quitting statement and says he was fired. I remember Valerie giving us tidbits and being very careful about saying whether or not Dave was an official member and "IF" there would be a tour. But that doesn't stop people from believing whatever they want to believe.

Way too one sided. I'm sure Sammy's ego had something to do with the tension, but as we all know(go back and look and listen to the interviews), Ed was a different guy from 1996, 1998 and on til 2004 when he was a shell of what he once was. It was like a slow, steady, decline from some disease. Sam may talk too much, but he usually sounds reasonable. Things should have been able to be worked out, reasonability should have prevailed. The band would have undoubtably been better if Sammy never left/got fired.

I think everything that could go wrong went wrong for them after the 93 tour ended. I think everything was still really good within the band. Sam and Ed were friends (find an article called "sammy drills eddie" which is an interview where Sammy interviews Ed the day of the last show on the RHRN tour). Ed and Sam did the house of blues radio show in early 94 and they sounded like they got along great. Everything fell apart after that. Ed lefler dies, ed gets sober, ray daniels comes into the fold. Ed seems like he changed alot between 93 and 95 and maybe that threw Sam off.

I always wonder what would have happened if they had done a studio album in 93 instead of RHRN, would it have skewed the timeline enough so that non of this would have ever happened?

I think history has proven which one of them is sane and which one of them is a loon.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

You're right, I stand corrected, they are both quacks.

I believe that timeline contains a hefty amount of one side of the story. Not to mention a share of fiction.

Like this gem: "Ed quits drinking for good."

Unless "for good" is the name of a wine.

As completely skewed as that timeline is written, it pretty much sums up what I imagine is Eddie's POV.

Sam isn't an angel. I can see Eddie getting constantly annoyed with the crap lyrics Sam was writing towards the end of things. The objective data we have on this is the crap lyrics themselves.

Sammy likes to work quickly and he doesn't really mind putting stuff out there frequently and with little fuss. That is why the man can continue to produce material no matter what stage his career in, or how old he gets, or managing businesses, or what distractions are brewing. Fussing over an album for several years isn't something that will hold his attention for very long. Sometimes this works out great when you have a lot of fresh ideas and energy. Many bands put out one or two albums with stuff they recorded and wrote in two weeks of effort that become classics. But the longer your band is together, the longer you have to dig for material.

I say he was getting a little bored with the VH scene and wasn't working as hard on his parts as much as Eddie wanted him to.

    Difference in style.
