Default Please Sign this petition and support!

I dont normally bring stuff like this on here but I have to make the exception now. Please check out the link and help make sure this man can never do this again.

It is truly devastating and this piece of shit needs shutting down! Animal cruelty is a disease that is worldwide and we have to stand up and say no. I have seen a lot in my support for saving animals from unnecessary suffering. I thought I had hardened myself to that cruelty. This actually had me shaking in horror and weeping.

My friends in the US... please look at this and sign the petition.

They dont have, "must stamp on calves head and spear with a pitchfork" on the label.

Fuckers like this are sadistic cowards and have to make themselves feel big by hurting animals. Cows for fucks sake! Gentle animals who provide them with a living! I have seen some sick shit in my time but this is just fucking mind blowing.

I need someone to lend me a gun!!! Even that would be more than this fucker deserves!

not to jump on my vegetarian soap box here, but terrible things happen all the time in the production of our food. If we really knew everything, we wouldn't be able to choke down most of the food that is put before us. Myself, I am now buying only organic cage free eggs (not a perfect solution, but the best I can do right now, and shifting to rice and soy milk...which has been harder than I thought it would be)

That said, all dairy farmers should not be tarred with the same brush.

There is extreme financial pressure on dairy farmers, who are some of the hardest working people you will ever meet. Most of them (excepting the huge factory farms) are ethical and work hard to care for their animals.

Recently I saw a documentary about a family returning to dairy farming with the goal of doing it humanely...lots of pasture time for the cows, less noise and stress and they were finding much higher yeilds and lower vet costs for their herd.....but make no bones about it, dairy cows have hard lives.

Thats the point tho Daisy. I'm not veggie, but Christ, there is no need for any of this! Compassion in farming is not only humane but makes more sense because at the end of the day, healthy stress free animals make for better yeild. This guy just did it for jollies and I despise monsters like him. He's disgusting!

Extreme Video Of Dairy Farm Abuse, Misdemeanor Charges Ignite Anger

Plain City, OH, United States (AHN) - Undercover footage of dairy cows in an Ohio farm being kicked in the face and stabbed with pitchforks by workers has ignited anger worldwide. The owner of Conklin Dairy Farms is one of several people shown in the video taken by an animal welfare group, but only one man has been charged.

Billy Joe Gregg, a farm worker until he was fired by Conklin this week, was arraigned Thursday on 12 counts of animal cruelty. During the hearing in which his bond was set at $100,000, he appealed to the judge that he could not go to jail because he is studying for exams to become a police officer and that he had animals at home to look after.

Gregg, 25, also raised objections to some multiple counts against him, arguing that the alleged actions were done to the same animal.

Ohio has no felony criminal charges for animal cruelty cases. The allegations against Gregg carry up to 90 days in jail and up to a $750 fine, a punishment that commenters in blogs and online forums called a "wrist slap."

The Ohio state House passed a bill Thursday imposing tougher sentences for animal abusers, but the legislation does not cover livestock.

Union County prosecuting attorney David Phillips has said he has received hundreds of calls and e-mail messages about the disturbing video, but that the Marysville city attorney is responsible for the case because the charges are second-degree misdemeanors.

The footage can be viewed online along with a growing number of undercover videos of animal abuse taken by animal welfare organizations. It was released Wednesday by the non-profit Mercy for Animals. The videos show several people abusing dairy cows, including twisting the animals' tails until the bones broke and punching their udders.

A man that looks like Gregg is seen punching calves in the face and throwing them by their ears to the ground, poking the caged cows repeatedly with pitchforks and hitting the animals in the face with a crowbar.

The owner of the farm, Gary Conklin, can also be seen repeatedly kicking a downer cows in the face and neck. Downers are those cattle that are too injured to stand.

Conklin has issued a statement saying, "Our family takes the care of our cows and calves very seriously. The video shows animal care that is clearly inconsistent with the high standards we set for our farm and its workers."

Officials have said investigation of the case is continuing and that other charges may be filed. Critics have pointed out that future charges and current charges against Gregg would only be for incidents of animal cruelty that were captured on the video.

Critics also called for more regulation of the livestock industry. "The USDA is understaffed and has NO way to possibly watch over the 10 BILLION animals killed in America for 'food'," commented Aubrey M on an online forum. "Cows and pigs are forced to live in metal crates that are so small that they can't move. They are legally allowed to cut off cows tails with no pain killer. The abuses are so many that it is overwhelming to list them all. There is no such thing as humane meat or dairy."

Kelly Martin said in another forum, "This was a randomly chosen dairy in Ohio...this is going on everywhere..this guy just got caught... This is a culture of abuse."

The American Farm Bureau Federation, however, sought to make clear that abuse is not the norm in their industry.

“There is never justification for the type of mistreatment and cruelty that was displayed in the video," it said in a statement. "As farmers and ranchers, we must and we do care for our animals and the well-being of our animals. Caring for farm animals is an ethic that guides our every move."

A blogger in northeast Ohio, Connie Lechleitner, also wrote that the video brought tears to her eyes but then made her "mad as hell... for the erroneous message this video sends, that wrongly implies those who work in agriculture in our state, and especially in animal husbandry, are callous, disregarding of animal welfare."

"In the dairy industry, farmers strive for less stress to their cows, which helps them improve milk production... To abuse these animals is to sabotage your very livelihood as a dairy farmer," she said.

Lechleitner warned the public that the footage shows "those who want you to become a vegetarian and shut down dairy farms... are more concerned with promoting their agendas than with the welfare of animals."

The argument echoes those from others who ask why Mercy for Animals did not immediately report the abuse to authorities. The organization said its investigation began last month and took four weeks.

Wayne Pacelle, chief executive of the Humane Society of the United States, told the Agri Broadcast Network that the group had to work to "aggregat[e] enough evidence to bring forward charges."

Pacelle added, "Here you have a brutal and vicious set of behaviors that was tolerated by this farm where the... owner was involved in some of the cruelty and the only thing that stopped it from recurring was the effort by Mercy for Animals... so agriculture groups who care about their reputation should be thanking Mercy for Animals for bringing this to light."

There is absolutely no excuse for treating any living thing this way. What many of you who are not in Ohio do not understand is how much of a hot button issue animal rights and agriculture practices has become in this state.

We are in some cases being targeted by animal rights activists who are looking for wholesale changes in the laws. I am afraid to say, that as this issue heats up , more hidden camera videos like this are likely to appear (for better, or for worse)

Last fall we passed "Issue 2" which provided for a constitutional amendment in Ohio which would create an agriculture board to determine and enforce best practices for the management of livestock by agriculture businesses in Ohio.

The Humane society of the United States had their own, stricter legislation that they wanted passed in Ohio. Certain groups involved in agriculture, then proposed this amendment, which would effectively shut down the HSUS and their proposed legislation.

Now the animal activists, who believe the new board will be merely a puppet of big ag are coming forward and trying a new approach to thwart the forward movement of the board.

this "Conklin campaign" is a well orchestrated campaign that is involving animal activists and celebrities nationwide.

All I'm saying is don't forget that there is a heated political agenda at work here in Ohio regarding livestock and their rights

Animal-rights advocates push for Issue 2 amendment to set livestock board rules
By Joe Guillen, The Plain Dealer
    February 05, 2010, 7:55PM
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Animal-rights advocates are pushing for a constitutional amendment to set rules for the Livestock Care Standards Board, a new state agency that voters approved just three months ago.

Wayne Pacelle, president and chief executive of the Humane Society of the United States, says the Ohio constitutional amendment his group is advocating "essentially jumpstarts the animal welfare work of the livestock board."On Friday, Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray approved language for the advocates' petitions, the first step toward placing the amendment on the November ballot.

If the amendment makes the ballot, it would be the second livestock issue put before the state's voters in two years. Voters established the livestock board in November by passing Issue 2.

And the amendment would be the second countermeasure to a constitutional amendment approved in November. Last month, state lawmakers agreed to place an amendment on the May ballot that would alter Issue 3 by changing the location of a casino approved by voters for Columbus.

Advocates behind the latest animal-treatment ballot measure -- led by the Humane Society of the United States, which opposed Issue 2 -- say they're just ensuring the Livestock Care Standards Board gets off to a good start.

"It essentially jumpstarts the animal welfare work of the livestock board," said Wayne Pacelle, president and chief executive of the Humane Society of the United States.

But supporters of Issue 2 said the latest ballot measure is an attempt to interfere with the new livestock board, which has yet to meet.

"The board hasn't even begun to have their discussions, and yet the Humane Society says it's not good enough," Ohio Farm Bureau Federation spokesman Joe Cornely said. "Should you at least not give the thing a chance to work before you come and change it?"

The passage of Issue 2 established the 13-member board, which essentially would dictate what kinds of confinements and treatment of farm animals the state will allow and what crosses over into animal cruelty.

The Humane Society wants to interject its own ideas with this latest amendment, even before the board meets. If the latest amendment makes it onto the Nov. 2 ballot and passes, it would:

•Establish "minimum humane standards" within six years of its passage.

•Require cages large enough to allow certain animals to stand up, turn around, lie down and freely extend their limbs.

•Bar killing cows and pigs on farms by strangulation.

•Prohibit processing of cows that are too sick or injured to stand and walk.

Cornely said these types of regulations should be decided by the board, with input from the public. He suggested the Humane Society is trying to promote a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle by "taking meat, milk and eggs off our tables."

State lawmakers still must set governing guidelines for the board before the 13 members are picked and begin meetings. An Ohio House committee held hearings on the subject this week.

The Ohio Ballot Board will next consider the petition before supporters will be allowed to start gathering the 402,275 valid signatures needed to qualify the amendment for the ballot.

Those 4 bulletpoints dont seem too much to be asking for. The point is, you dont have to be a vegetarian to want to stop people like this farmer from abusing his livestock. Kicking the heads of newborn calves for sucks sake... it's revolting behaviour! There should be laws in any civilised country preventing cruelty like this. I loathe battery farming too and I darent buy anything but free range eggs, not just me. but my kids would hit the roof if they saw them in the house.

Humans are omnivores by nature, but we shouldnt be nasty violent animal abusers by nature either. A decent life and a decent death for livestock isnt much to ask for.

I'm in agreement with you on the animal cruelty issue. But the first day my kids "hit the roof" about any food I'm providing will also be the last day.

SEA I agree, with everything except the concept of a decent death for livestock...IMO it's a brutal process no matter what

I'm just pointing out that there are political agendas at work here concerning the ag livestock board that Ohio voters overwhelmingly approved just a few months ago and the HSUS (of which I am a financial supporter) who is dissatisfied with having been not allowed to determine the direction of the board.

There is a lot of political posturing going on here with new petitions circulating and new PAC commercials airing regarding a new constitutional amendment after we just went through approving an issue for a constitutional amendment in November

That's because I taught them about animal welfare and they expect me to live by my choices. Not just talk the talk. Thats cool though.
