    Default CFII: Sammy's Last Hurrah?

Per Satriani, the second CF album will be released in early 2011 and we would assume a tour that would run through the end of that year. By the time the tour would end, Sammy would be 64.

A third CF record would likely take another 18 months considering the pace at which everyone works as well as time away for other projects, including the Chili Peppers and Satch solo stuff. That puts us in 2014, the year in which Sammy turns 67. This makes me really doubt the likelihood of CF III. This is especially considering that Sam said at the end of the last tour that he probably couldn't/wouldn't wait another 2 years for the next CF. (This was at the time when Chad's return to the Chili's was potentially putting CF on hold for good while.)

I know that 60 is the new 50 but at some point, the guy is going to have to slow way down. I realize you should never count out the Red Rocker and an album when he’s 70 wouldn’t be terribly shocking to most of us on this board.

The reason I started this borderline-stupid thread full of conjecture is that sooner or later and possibly sooner, we are going to see good ‘ole Sammy hang up the spurs at least in the context of being part of an active group like CF or even his solo work. Before we end up in the whirlwind of the next release, we should really plan to take in every aspect of the upcoming CF album and take nothing for granted. I plan to suck up every drop in case it’s the last.

Sammy said a year or so ago he thinks he has ten years left in the tank for touring etc. Can't give you the source on that but I do remember him saying that. But nothing lasts forever. Look at BB King still touring. Look at Ed and Al doing nothing. I think if Dave wasn't leashed he'd be doing Rib Fest too.

As long as Sammy feels good and sounds great, then he can do it for as long as he wants.

Must be a loose leash because Dave is supposedly doing a solo album.

It's scary to think of Sammy hanging it up, but the day will come someday. He is 62, but he is a very young 62. Dio was 67 when he died last week and was still touring as of last summer. I agree though..let's enjoy Sammy while we can.

Yeah but Sam is more productive at 62 than a lot of people from Gen X or Gen Y. Did you see his hair and his teeth? Sam doesn't age like the rest of us. His brain was downloaded by aliens and parts of his body have obviously benefited from some advanced technology from another planet. So have no fear, my friend. Sam will probably be partying in Cabo when he hits 100, in 2047.

Haha! I wouldn't go quite that far. I think he may slow down at some point. Perhaps to the point where he semi-retires to Cabo, doing shows there when he feels like it. Perhaps noodling around in the studio from time-to-time. But I don't think he'll ever quit.

Sammy certainly doesn't look his age. Not sure how he feels but he can continue to tour/record for as long as he wants. There will always be an audience for him.

Jimmy Buffet is 64, doesn't sell a ton of records, but still has an avid fan base and a "brand" identification. Tours regularly because he loves to play (and face it, that's where the real money is these days) and it keeps the branding going. Doesn't seem to be an end in sight

I can see Sammy playing limited tours and engagements at resorts etc for years...as long as his health holds out, why not? Besides, at this stage in the game, they don't tour like they used to...bunch of guys crammed in buses for a year at at time living out of hotels....the roadies live like that...these guys spend limited time traveling like that

I think Sam's enjoyment of life comes from creating and sharing it with his fans. Along with Buffett, I'm hard pressed to name any artist that seems to enjoy the entire process more than Sam. The fact that he is so prolific( much more so than Buffett) is a testament to that fact. Let's face it, until Chickenfoot, he wasn't selling a ton of the solo cd's he was putting out. Yet, he still enjoyed the creative aspects enough and to share the fruits of that with his fans.

It feels to me like he will continue to do Chickenfoot as long as the other guys want to, and it is viable.

I'll give you another artist, Mr. Warren Haynes, the hardest working man in music. And also very good to his fans. And every band he's in clocks in 3-3.5 hour shows every gig. The mans an amazing human being on many levels.
