    Default Recording with GuitarPort/Rifftracker

This might not be the site to post this on but I know alot of you have recording exp. and some have used these programs.

Alright, I have Line 6's GuitarPort w/RiffTracker which is a really fun program. GuitarPort is a Computer Amp Software with built in player/tuner/Tons of Amps/Effects and everything you could need. RiffTracker is a Recording software geared towards Guitar playing.

My point, I can do everything that I want but one thing. I can't use GuitarPort/RiffTracker to Record over MP3 Backing Tracks. For some reason Rifftracker wont let you load and Record over MP3s. GuitarPort has a Player but for some reason RiffTracker only picks up the Guitar and not the music when recording.

So i'm looking for a cheap way to use my Guitarport (My Amp) and be able to record over backing tracks, I dont have to use RiffTracker.

The only thing ive came up with is this:
Buy a $12 adapter that has a Male Guitar Plug on 1 side and Red/White RCA plugs on the other. Plug it into the GuitarPort, Then into a CD player. Record the Music as a Layer on Rifftracker. If this works (Which I have no clue if it will) I would be able to record over the Backing tracks and use them as layers.

What do you guys think? All Thoughts Appreciated.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I just load the backing track into Audacity and hit record. Just select GuitarPort as the device you're recording from.

yep that is correct, I use a Toneport and Line6's Gearbox software, which is the older version of guitarport, and that exactly how i record on the fly.
setup your gear in the usual manner and open guitarport, then open Audacity, select the input device, load the mp3 onto Audacity, select a new track to record your guitar to, then simply play and record, you should hear both the mp3 and your guitar through your headphones or speakers. just b aware that if your computer isn't very powerful there will be some degree of latency

Are you trying to record with the Line 6 backings? I can tell you that wont work. Theyre proprietary, I tried it a few times. Go to sites like btforums and dl tracks there.

Bro, Awesome Job on Hot For Teacher!

I got everything updated and ready, today I spent 3 hours just trying to dial in a decent VH1 tone and can't get anything i like thats similier to VH1. Im thinking im goin to have to get the classic Rock amp add on that has the Veriac Plexi setting. Any Tips? Your tone sounded really good.

Here's 2 Van Halen Classic's Butchered by yours truly. I know they're out of tune, Key and a tone of mistakes. But they where FUN to make and if your speakers blow up or you go deaf. Blame it on the guys who showed me how to record haha.

How did you get the car horn intro for Running with the Devil?
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his
