Default So I'm looking to build a Ripley

Well not a real Ripley, but at least my version.
I came across this site http://http://ubertar.com/hexaphonic/ I owned a Ripley years ago but parted with it as the novelty wore off, and playing live.....Ehhh...but now that I have my studio, I've run into situations where I thought..."Man, that part would sound real cool with a Ripley on it!"
The guy's site offers hexaphonic pickups, or 6 individual output pickups like the original Bartolini's found in the Ripley Kramers. I have the perfect body for it, one that I've been kind of at a loss for what to do with, and I've gotta do a little more research on good quality pan pots but this could be a real fun project. The pickups are alot less expensive than I thought they would be. I've been looking for years for an original Bartolini, but with no luck....at least an affordable one. I'm thinking of wiring it so that it both splits into stereo, but also can be wired via a small switcher circuit like a humbucker with both singlecoils side by side in one humbucking slot.
Anyway....it's just in the works now, and I'll keep you up to date.
    Should be cool!
BTW.....Notice not one mention of AL3D?............Ahhhh...DAMMIT!
She looks so $#@!'n good ,so sexy and so frail....Somethin's got the bite on me, I'm goin' straight to Hell.

Just checked out Johnny's tube vid. That's almost exactly like mine was, except the headstock seems a little different. I think mine was a bit pointier. Not sure what year mine was, but I'm sure it was a bit later than '85. Maybe '87...not sure. Same color scheme....all black! Yeah...I miss it. One thing I had problems with on mine was the pots were real scratchy, or it would drop out, so you had to wiggle them just right. I had to spray contact cleaner in them, but it always came back. THat's why I want to find a real good quality micro pan pot.

Some pics. Don't know if I'll go black, or more psychedelic with color.

Or a Ripley J config. bass.

Hey Johnny.....Any idea what the three small knobs above the six panpots were for on the Eddie signed red tye dyed looking guitar in the pic above? Could this be one of the Ripleys that came with onboard distortion/boost?

Yeah...I know some Ripleys came with a few more options, but I can't figure what those would be. Maybe some additional toneshaping. Dunno.

    Hey dudes.
Ive read that the Ripley Eddie used - im guessing the non Kramer Tele one - had extra knobs that controlled effects.

    Delay, reverb, overdrive,flange,

So his Ripley was able to have a different effect on each string as well as panning.

Not sure about the extra knobs on the cloud Ripley.

I'll take a better video of my Ripley later, that video i have on youtube sucks!

The pointy head stocks were from 1986/1987 i think.

Thanks Johnny M'man! Yeah, I remember that one; the Tele style body. That thing had more knobs and switches than a 747! Yeah, the cloud's extra three knobs are a bit of a mystery. I emailed the guy who makes the hexaphonic pickups, so as soon as he gets back to me, I'll get the party started. It'll be a cool project. They're passive singlecoils, but I think once I modify and mount them on a chassis, and wire them out of phase for humbucking they'll provide enough poop, with less hum. Gonna use my old Kramer Focus neck and a body I built long ago on it. The control cavity is routed almost perfectly already to accept the pots the way the Ripley was.
    Thanks again for the info.
