You've got to tidy the place. Some painting needs doing. The sink has three weeks of plates and cutlery in it. You might even need to enter the eighth level of hell (do some ironing).

What music gets your mind ready and hopefully puts a little boogie in your feet as you wrestle through that hangover and set about sterilising your dwelling.

I am a gurning, dancing fool whenever this tune hits the air. No job too tough.

OHMYGOSH!!! FOCUS! Now, THAT brings back some memories! My cousin Tobias (from München) gave my brother Tom the first Focus. We'd never heard of them before, and we really liked them. Man, I haven't thought of these guys in forever! I think I need some Focus on CD.

Anyway, when I work, I like to listen to single-band compilations. Usually, it's rock because of the energy.
    - Mowing -- Van Halen, Def Leppard, Cheap Trick, Hips, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Voivod. Nothing too heavy, because it will wind up blending in with the mower noise if it is. I love yard work, by the way. There's a zen-like quality with it.
    - Interior (except folding/hanging laundry) -- Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, The Replacements, The Cure, Radiohead, Mother Hips, Nickel Creek (modern bluegrass), my Power Pop! compilation.
    - Laundry -- when I fold and hang, I put on a DVD since I don't have VH-1 Classic anymore.

Start off low-key, maybe something like Steely Dan's "Dirty Work". Then you pick up the pace with a few Van Morrison hits. Then you keep your rhythm going, no stopping now, with a nice Earth, Wind, and Fire compilation. Horns, gotta have soul and horns during this stretch.

Then, when you're tired of cleaning but you still have a bit to accomplish, put on Metallica's "Master of Puppets", and crank that bitch up. That's probably when you're ready to start drinking again.

Hecks yeah! I like to listen to EWF after I'm done cleaning.
