    My Props to Van Hagar

My VH beginnings are probably like most (if you were around in 78)
And , to be truthful, the Classic VH is my kinda VH.
When Dave left, I was truly bummed. I was 18 yrs old and VH were hero's to me.
Then 5150 w/ Sammy came out and it was pretty damn good, and the tour was damn good too. Still bummed about DLR leaving, but this would have to do and Ed was on fire (no pun intended) on the 5150 tour. But that is where my Van Hagar enjoyment ended. OU812 was ok @ best and the direction of the band was not what I wanted it to be. From there on, I was increasingly less impressed. Fast forward to recent history, I'm 43 and a sales rep for a large insurance carrier. Lot's of stress and break neck pace (quotas etc)
The Song "Right Now" is a sales reps battle cry. If you have sold for a living, you understand.
Actually, it's a damn good battle cry for life itself.
I was on my way to an appointment last Friday and popped in VH Greatest hits and on comes "Right Now" and it blew me away. I've heard RN a million times like the rest of the peeps that frequent this site, but this time it hit me HARD! I actually cried. My old man died 5 yrs ago and he always had that sense of urgency to push in life. He was always the "Right Now" man. Live your life now, kick ass now, do it now".
He smoked 4 packs a day (non filter) and he was as old school as it gets, but a heart of gold. He always wanted me to live "Right Now"
I never felt the heart of that song, until last Friday and it kicked me (in a good way)
It's a strange way and long winded way to express MY take on an old song, but that's the way it hit me on that day. So, my had is off to the boys that comprised Van Hager, that song kicks butt! Thanks CV

With the passing of time, Sam... Dave... the difference becomes increasingly insignificant... they become one and the same... compared to the real alternative, which is what we have now.... silence, nothingness, emptiness... death.

Cav I'am with you man. I was there in 78 and when Dave left it hurt really bad. I was slow to accept Sammy too. In fact I didn't even go to the first few tours with him. But I had to get my live Eddie fix again and I said hey this singer is not bad, not Dave but not bad either. I think the Dreams video is the best Hagar era video. Its moving and when they did it live with the video on the big screen it really touches you.

"Right Now" is relevant whether it's 1991, 2001, or even 2010.

    1. how come this is in sam's forum? Seems like it should be in the Van Halen forum.

    2. I think all the hate on Right Now is pretty lame. It's a damn good song and it's very well-performed.

    3. Cav, glad you had a good healthy cathartic moment like that. Those are important. Love your dad, right now and always.
    Stay out of it, dude.

Well, it's only one person and considering his screen name is "VHwasCoolestwithDLR", it's not surprising.

I have to admit that name has inspired me to change mine to "DLRistheoriginalfaceofVHbutSammybroughtthebandtoa biggeraudienceandthereforebothsingersareveryspecia ltome"

I was speaking more in generalities because that song gets a lot of hate throughout the Links...

I never liked the tune either. I don't hate it, and sometimes I am in the mood for it and I make it all the way through when it comes up on shuffle.

No good reason, I recognize that it is a well written, professionally performed and produced song.

    But it usually gets skipped.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

I placed this thread in the Red Rocker forum mostly to give Sam his props.
His lyrics were what really "got me" in the song and I have been tough on Sam's lyrics in the past. This song kind of snuck up on me that day. Makes me want to live life to the full.

Not to mention I'm sure Cav wanted to have a discussion about this VAN HALEN song without attracting the knuckleheads. So much for that idea.
