Default Sammy, Mike, and Ritchie Kotzen

Today I was thinking about a cassette I used to have. It was a recording of a (Westwood One?) broadcast of the Fresno concerts that would eventually become RHRN.

Anyway, before they played the show, there was a live performance (from the Cabo Wabo) from Sammy, Michael, Richie Kotzen, and a drummer whose name escapes me at the moment. I can remember that they did very cool covers of "Voodoo Chile" and "Rock Candy."

Does anybody know where I could find this? It's annoying that it is not on Youtube. Oh well.

On a side note, I remember that in the broadcast version of "Jump" (from Fresno '91), there was a very dorky sounding ending, in which Sam, Edward, and Mike all said "Jump" after the music stopped. It sounded so corny, and Andy Johns must have agreed, because it was cut out on the RHRN version. Anybody else recall this?

I have a Westwood One interview/concert on CD from back in the day. Bought it at a store that used to sell bootlegs. It's a professionaly done 3-CD pack. I'll go back and see if I can find that version of jump. Haven't listened to it in YEARS!! I remember when I got it. I was so excited but then I realized it was basically just RHRN with interviews in between songs. Still a cool keepsake.

Brett and I were posting about this recently, it was night one of the 2 recorded and it has "The Dream Is Over", "Eagles Fly" and a few other little differences from RHRN. It is floating around here somewhere in the bootleg forum.

I remember Sammy talking about how drunk he was during thr broadcast. Poundcake sounded awesome live.

BTW, if Sammy plays "Rock Candy" is it a cover?

Yes, I remember that he was drunk and he gave out the phone number to the Cabo Wabo, which, at the time, was still pretty obscure and shrouded in mystique. Anyway, I tried calling the number after the broadcast. Didn't work

Mainly I recall that the "Voodoo Chile" cover was REALLY cool.

Ah! This just popped in my head - they played "Three Lock Box" as well.

Lauser was the drummer you are thinking of. Sam, Kotzen, and Sobelski did an bluesy acoustic thing then cranked it up electrically. Brett Michaels was there too. That's when Kotzen replaced C.C. It was in Cabo in August 18,19,and 20th. I have these shows on VHS, LOL.
