Default Favorite VH Bootlegs by era

Okay...I've been delving into my VH boots lately. I've noticed that certain ones get more play than others.

What are your favorites from the Dave era, Sammy era, and Gary era?

The Dave Era: Bottoms Up! -- it's a pretty good soundboard recording. It's clear and the sound is even from start to finish. It rocks...and it was recorded at 2 in the afternoon right here in Oklahoma City. Woo hoo!

The Sammy Era: Got The Miracle Fingers -- recorded in Japan in 1989 during the OU812 tour (not many shows from this tour). It's a great sounding show, but it's missing a little something on the top end. The boys are on fire! "5150" is hot, "Panama" is hot, King Edward's fingers are blazin'...it's an all-around kick-ass show. Only two Dave-era songs (lame) but they are both great.

The Gary Era: Wolf Gang Attack (Burning!! of Osaka Attack '98) -- this one was tough. I think there are several great shows from Gary's short tenure in the band, but this is the best of the lot. Excellent sound quality. Van Halen is on fire! They're having a great time. The audience is responsive. Great set list, too. Some funny moments, too. "Alex! Give me a beat!" "I'll give you a beat."

"Got the Miracle Fingers" isn't a bootleg, VH recorded that show for television in Japan.
But i know what you mean and yes that is pretty much the only OU812 show that's out there that sounds good.

I'll look in my itunes & see what vh boots ive been listening to.

Ive been listening to these recently and have been enjoying them.

Dave era - Reunion Arena, Dallas, Texas. 11-18-82
Sounds to be from a proshot video - has anyone seen it?

Sammy era - Wembley Stadium, London, UK, June 24th 1995
This show was from the radio in the UK so sounds great!
Was talking to Tommy about this show recently over on facebook.

Gary era - I have some but never listen to them.

My favorite boot that is Van Halen related is actually a DLR solo bootleg.

Double Paradise Live is a great two disc set if you can find it. The one I have is as professional looking and sounding as anything else in their catalog.

Off the Skyscraper Tour, includes the acoustic set that DLR did with Vai on certain stops on that tour. Good mix of his solo and VH work. It is the mid-80's and Steve Vai, so the mix is too trebly for my tastes, but still I love it.

Good stuff, highly recommended if you can ever find it.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

DONATE TO THE LINKS YA CHEAP BASTARDS!!!!

Guys are missing out if you aren't listening to some boots from '98. Say what you will about VH3, but Cherone was probably the best pure vocalist of the three, and could actually pull off songs from all 3 eras. He could go from "Mean Street" to "Why Can't this Be Love" without missing a beat. Helluva singer.

Id rather listen to vh3 than a boot from the tour.
Just don't like listening to the classic tunes with Gary singing them.
Never saw them on that tour but would have gone to see them if i could have - i was busy in a band in 1998 and couldn't make the tour.
But i remember my singer and drummer at the time did go to a party and Sammy was there.

Also the studio we were working at was mixing some songs off Sammy's album at the time - "red voodoo" so i got to hear some of the tracks b4 Sammy sang on them.
