    Default Woflgang 1999 VS 2007

OK...question to all you peavey Fans out there.. i now have 2 Peavey Wolfgang...one from 1999, and one from what i think is 2007..or last year of production. Now, they are supposely the same specs...BUT...when playing them in comparaison...they realy don't sound the same......i mean it's not like comparing the tone of a Tele to a Les Paul.. BUT, there is quite a difference between the 2. The 2007 has more of a deep bass tone, and the 1999 more bright, crunchy tone. i can't say any of the 2 sound BAD...just quite different. Enough that i have to give a bite more treeble to the amp when using the 2007.

    Any one ever experienced that?

I think 2005 was the last year of the PV. You didn't mention what models (standard, special, flametop, solid basswood, etc). Even if they are exactly the same specs, no two guitars sound EXACTLY alike.

2004 was the last year of production, which extended all the way through December (hence the reason some Wolfgangs left the factory in early 2005).

Different wood makes all the difference in the world. And there's also going to be some variance within the electronics.

I've owned 24 Peavey Wolfgangs over the years (16 at present). No two ever sounded exactly alike to my ears. There were ones that sounded similar, but each had its own unique tone and feel.

The first Wolfgang I owned was a 1998 ivory white Special. It was essentially the only guitar I played for six years. My second Wolf was a green flame top Special, purchased in 2004. It was like night and day the difference between those two--really messed with me when I was first playing the newer one. The ivory Special was dark, loud, and very resonant. The green flame Special was thinner sounding and much brighter.

Maple tops make a huge difference I've noticed. And, obviously, the hard tail models differ greatly in tone from their Floyd Rose counterparts.

...ya know, if it makes it any easier for you to decide, I'm pretty sure I could find a loving home for that tobacco burst if you decide to kick it out of the house...

I thought that this thread was from his birth to bass player status in VH.

Short for "tobacco burst", which in my opinion is the best looking Wolfgang.

Keep the one that has more of a bass tone. To much treble or brightness in the tone can be hard on the ears, just my opinion of coarse.
